[Verse 1]
Am I better off dead
Am I better off a quitter
They say I'm better off now
Then I ever was with her
As they take me to my local down the street
I'm smiling but I'm dying trying not to drag my feet

They say a few drinks will help me to forget her
But after one too many I know that I'm never
Only they can't see where this is gonna end
But they all think I'm crazy but to me it's perfect sense

[Chorus]
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if I go there now
I can change her mind turn it all around

I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words,
And she'll listen this time even though they're slurred,
So I dialed her number and confessed to her,
I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing (nothing, nothing...)

[Verse 2]
So I stumble there, along the railings and the fences
I know if we're face to face then she'll come to her senses
Every drunk step I take leads me to her door
If she sees how much I'm hurting
She'll take me back for sure

[Chorus]
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if I go there now
I can change her mind turn it all around

And I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words,
And she'll listen this time even though they're slurred,
So I dialed her number and confessed to her,
I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing (nothing, nothing...)
She said nothing (nothing nothing)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing (nothing nothing)
I got nothing (nothing nothing)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing

[Verse 3]
Oh sometimes love's intoxicating
Oh you're coming down your hands are shaking
When you realise there's no one waiting

Am I better off dead
Am I better off a quitter
They say I'm better off now
Than I ever was with her

[Chorus]
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if I go there now
I can change her mind turn it all around

I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words,
And she'll listen this time even though they're slurred,
So I dialed her number and confess to her,
I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing (nothing, nothing...)
She said nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
I got nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing (Nothing, nothing...)
I got nothing, I got nothing

Songs don't always just mean what they say on the surface. In this song, he's basically saying that yes, he loves get and can't get over her. But rather than meaning that he actually called get and didn't say anything, it means that no matter what he says, she still doesn't seem to care about him and his feelings. He could completely cut himself off from get and not speak to her, and it wouldn't affect her. It's one of those "unrequited love" things. They always say that unrequited (unreturned) love lasts the longest. The reason why is because the person will keep holding on, and waiting for the other person to realize how much they really care about them or love them. Most never realize it until it's too late, also saying that we always want what we can't have. We are never happy with where we are in life.

You could spend your entire life waiting for the right person to come along. In my case, the search lasted 23 years, and then I met her. She invited me to visit her in her hometown. I took a chance and when I did, I fell in love with her and the city she lived in. I left EVERYTHING behind to be with her. Two years later, we married. Never had I experienced a love so deep. She became my world. 18 years and three kids later, she decides this is not the life she wants. She severs herself from my heart and divides my family. Now the only thing I feel is complete brokenness. I know what the verse means, "I'm still in love but all I heard was nothing...". I'm living it. My son, who is now 13, introduced this song to me. It is a great song. It's meaning comes from someone who is deeply in love but receives nothing in return. Kinda like the life that Jesus lived for us. Peace!

For me this means that we should learn how to appreciate what we have now cause when it's gone it might be too late to have it back.let's not take the one we love for granted.let us not waste the chance given to us to be with him/her cause it might be too late

This song is exactly what I am experiencing right now. I just said to a lady that I loved her and gets no response from her. I tried every means just to show my love and concern for her, but I didn't get any response or appreciation, so I decided to stop my "craziness" and just go on with my life. Still, she lingers in my heart and mind. What is worse is that we're on the same school and I still see her sometimes. You know the feeling of talking to her and fix everything all over again, but I can't do it because I don't want to end up crying and hurt, hoping that an "unmoved" person would fall inlove with me. I hate myself though, not because of the lack of strength to talk to her and fix everything just as I wanted and be just mere friends, but I hate myself because I still love her no matter what, even though she won't love me.

Pretty easy, drunk dude broke up with his girlfriend and his friends are trying to tell him he's better off. He's considering his options because he still loves her while he's been drinking. Tried calling her up to tell her he still loves her and all he got back was silence. Makes him pretty sad, so he wonders if he's better off dead or a quitter.
