Drowning Lessons lyrics

Songwriters: Iero, Frank; Toro, Raymond; Pellisier, Matt; Way, Gerard; Way, Mikey

Without a sound I took her down
And dressed in red and blue I squeezed
Imaginary wedding gown
That you can't wear in front of me
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Lets say goodbye, the hundredth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again
Tomorrow we'll do it again

I dragged her down I put her out
And back there I left her where no one could see
And lifeless cold into this well
I stared as this moment was held for me
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Let's say goodbye, the hundredth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again

I never thought it'd be this way
Just me and you, we're here alone
And if you stay, all I'm asking for is
A thousand bodies piled up
I never thought would be enough
To show you just what I've been thinking

And I'll keep on making more
Just to prove that I adore
Every inch of sanity
All I'm asking for is, all I'm asking for is
Come on!

These hands stained red

From the times that I've killed you and then
We can wash down this engagement ring
With poison and kerosene
We'll laugh as we die
And we'll celebrate the end of things
With cheap champagne

Without, without a sound
Without, without a sound
And I wish you away
Without a sound
And I wish you away

Without a sound, without a sound
And I wish you away
Without a sound, without a sound
And I wish you away
Without a sound, without a sound
And I wish you away

AshNVFX seems pretty accurate. But I still want to get my thoughts out there. Keep in mind that these will probably be random and hard to keep up with... and most likely wrong. But I some how made the connection, and finding all sorts of meanings is what music is all about anyway, so here goes.

I thought the "and dressed in red and blue I squeezed" lyric was supposed to maybe symbolize something horrible, like completely devestating to their relationship. And the effect of it on the relationship is so bad that it is comparable to gang violence, being red and blue are the colors to rival gangs... So maybe they became like enemies? That's how the line seemed to me.

"I dragged her down I put her out
And back there I left her where no one could see
And lifeless cold into this well"
That lyric is also something that made me think. "I dragged her down I put her out" made me think of how Gerard struggled with drugs and alcohol for a while... and I'm not sure if this song was even written around that time... But maybe he's talking about how she was dragged down with him.

"As rice grains and roses fall at your feet
Let's say goodbye, the hundredth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again"
This line made me think of them planning a wedding. Then it's cancled, relationship over. But they end up getting back together. Made me think of an off and on relationship.

Wow... I'm sorry to everyone who read that. But I make weird connections. And I happen to think that connections made to the lyrics, no matter how weird they are, plays a big part.

I love this song though. My Chemical Romance is amazing. They really inspired me. And I am one of the people who was saved by them.

Ok, soo..

And dressed in red and blue I squeezed [Covered in blood and bruises]
Imaginary wedding gown
That you can't wear in front of me [The girl is the narrator's fiancé, and they can't see each other before the wedding]
A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell [He is killing her little by little]
As rice grains and roses fall at your feet [Rice grains and roses symbolise the wedding they want, but will never have.]
Lets say goodbye, the hundredth time
And then tomorrow we'll do it again
Tomorrow we'll do it again [They split up/he leaves her. They break up because it wont work out and he keeps breaking her heart, but always end up getting back together. He always lets her down.]

i dragged her down I put her out
and back there I left her where no one could see
and lifeless cold into this well [he kills her - proverbally]

i stared as this moment was held for me
a kiss goodbye, your twisted shell [keeps letting her down]
as rice grains and roses fall at your feet [they will never get married - this is talking about what they could have had]
let's say goodbye, the hundredth time
and then tomorrow we'll do it again [The process keeps repeating itself - he cant live with out her, but he cant give her what she wants]

i never thought it'd be this way
just me and you, we're here alone
and if you stay, all I'm asking for is
a thousand bodies piled up
i never thought would be enough
to show you just what I've been thinking

and I'll keep on making more
just to prove that I adore
every inch of sanity
all I'm asking for is, all I'm asking for is [Just wants to get the relatinship to work out - dsesperate]

these hands stained red
(with 'blood' and the hurt he causes)

from the times that I've killed you and then [How they always fought, and he hurts her]
we can wash down this engagement ring
with poison and kerosene
we'll laugh as we die
and we'll celebrate the end of things
with cheap champagne [the will kill themselves and celebrate their death - he thinks that if they cant they can be together in life, they can in death]

He kills her and then himself so they can forget the heartache and end the relationship. The potential future relationship is destroyed. He doesn't regret it either - we'll celebrate the end of things]. He would kill a thousand men for her but he thought it would take more just to be with her. He would kill more men just to prove that he loves her. He wants to forget her without any problems, [without a sound and I wish you away]. His solution to theproblems is suicide.

[An alternative is that the guy is always just waiting for the right girl, but cant find the perfect one. She should be priveliged at all the girls he has killed or just "used and abused" so to speak, trying to find her.
Or perhaps, he had the right girl at the beginning, killed her or messed up the relationship, and wants to find one perfectly alike to her- But he cant.
At the end he kills himself, and her memory - "I wish you away."

So many different interpretations that could be taken from this.
