My Chemical Romance – Teenagers lyrics
They're gonna clean up your looks
With all the lies in the books
To make
a citizen out of you
Because they
sleep with a gun
And keep
an eye on you, son
So they can watch all the things you do

Because the drugs never work
They're gonna give you a smirk
Cause they got methods
Of keeping you clean
They're gonna rip up your heads
Your aspirations to shreds
Another cog
in the murder machine

They said
all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They couldn't care
less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes
Or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone
But not me

The boys and
girls in the clique
The awful names that they
stick
You're never gonna fit in
much kid
But if you're troubled and hurt
What you got under your shirt
Will make them pay for the things that they did

They said all teenagers scare
the living shit out of me
They couldn't care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes
Or strike
a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone
But
not me

Whoa yeah!

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They couldn't care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes
Or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone
But not me

All together now,
Teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They couldn't care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes
Or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone

But not me

Teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They couldn't care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes
Or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone
But not me

In an interview Gerard said that he wrote this after watching teenagers on the bus or train, can't remember which. They were a lot more. What's the word? . I guess more trouble making then he was. And. Well. They scared the s*t out of him. That's all I know for fact. I think that Gerard also put in a bit of lyrics about adults trying to change us teens who aren't straight A cheerleader/football player I'll-stab-you-in-the-back students. The ones who get catagorized as "emos", even though I say there shouldn't be a lable.

In my point of view this song just puts out the way government feels about teenagers. I think it was good for them to put this song out because it shows how people under mind us teenagers and think we can't think for our selfs and when we show them up they try to bring us down and hurt us. No matter what we are your future and no one can change that unless they wipe the whole teenage population of the face of the earth ;) but I like this song it makes me think what I can do.

To me, teenagers isn't about going and shooting up a school because no one understands me; like some like to claim this song is about. It's a song that says "i've been in your shoes. I've been on the edge. But you know what? I made it through and so can you. " this song got me through my worst year of school--8th grade. I was tormented beyond any kind of belief, but when I turned it on, I thought about the people who have it way worse than I did. It helped me, I hope it makes as big of a positive impact to everyone who reads these lyrics.

I think this song is about the teenage stereotypes. According to ignorant adults, all teenagers are either violent, vicious, or drug addicts. When they see teens that don't fit these prejudgements [goths, emos, etc.] they don't know how to respond, except to try and fit them into one of those categories. That's what the line "darken your clothes/ i'll strike a violent pose/ maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me" is about. When you don't understand something, you stay away from it- fear of the unknown.
You could also say it's about teen violence, which I think the song was originally written about. I feel that mcr is trying to say it's better to wear dark clothes and not fit in and scare people, than to actually be violent because no one gets hurt.
    Mcr forever.

Gerard wrote it after he went on a train full of teenagers and he said it was terrifying he had a hard time in school and adults remember how tough and hard it was when they where in high school I'm a teenager and I find it intimidating as well when I see them cause they stare you down and at school beat you up but not all of them are like that cause half of them don't care or are victims.

I think this song is about how adults and children don't think and they don't care. They have fun! They have a can do attatude wich if everyone had that the world would not be so cruped or "violent" or have to "darken your clothes" or whatever. That when you hit an age you start to be more materialistic and needy and if you don't get what you want you get violent. You have to deal with what you get and don't make a fit!

Gerard way the lead singer wrote this song when he was on a subway in New York, and there were a lot of teenagers around him making a mess of things and being pushy with other people. I think this also relates with his childhood, because he was bullied a lot in his teenage years, which also caused him to have many suicidal thoughts and self harming. His little brother Mikey also had the same issues.

When you first hear this song, the obvious meaning is that kids these days are scary! Let's face it, most people have a bad view of teenagers, because over the years we've gained a bad reputation: violent, lazy, useless, rebellious, drug-taking kids who are either dodgy chavs or creepy gothic misfits. But if you listen closely (and love the band/song enough like me) it has a deeper meaning; it's a message to the people who think fans of bands like mcr are bad people, or "emo" (a word I have been called many times but never understood), or dangerous. It's saying that if someone is different, they're simply trying to make the most of their teenage years, instead of wasting it being part of the pack, even if they get picked on because of it. Epic song!

Gerard has actually done drugs before and he knows the side affects. Because Gerard has so much experience with drugs he does not want to have other teenagers suffer from the same consequences. By My Chemical Romance putting it in a song he hoped it would prevent drug use with teens.

This songs meaning as others said above is the adults view on the teenagers they see now a days. Because we wear dark cloths and listen to punk, metal, rock, etc. They think we are problematic because we try to show we are different from the rest of there children. That we are not exact copies of there pathetic douche bag children. We try to show we are different so they think of us as violent rebels. I say so the hell what. We wanna be different and I will do anything or say anything to anyone to protect what I stand for. I don't know about you guys but I am proud of being a different "violent" teenager I rather be that than those kids that ridicule others because they are different.

See everyone as yourself and pick on them as if you were being picked. If you wouldn't like what you say said to you then they probably don't either. The future is inevitable and cannot be bypassed no matter how far it seems away. You're going to look back on today tomorrow no matter what, can you do it and not regret? Can you do it and proudly say that you didn't hurt anyone? Life is hard, and yours probably will be at times, but can you honestly sleep well knowing that you didn't make someone's harder? Can you sleep freely without constantly thinking about what you did? You can't change the past, but you're in your futures past, make yourself proud now and save your future. Sleep well tonight knowing that you didn't hurt anyone and that in the future because of your choices today you will not be ashamed of your actions, but stood up for someone who doesn't have the same platform.

    I. Just get this so much already and I just turned 13. I'm different to most people I listen to old music like pink floyd and the clash but most of my friends like pop. Don't get me wrong, I do like some of that its just. I am who I am.
The first verse is like what adults, parents, the government and school say.
" they're gonna clean up your looks" meaning that if your different, you must conform. " to make a citizen out of you" well, I have a subject in school called, cspe, and all the book talks about is how to be afraid of the law and to be a good citizen.
" they sleep with a gun and keep and eye on you, son. so they can watch all the things you do" kind of like everyone is watching you and scared of what you do next.
" because the drugs never work" has two meanings I think. Gerard Way was given drugs cos he had a hyper active disorder when he was a kid and they never really work. It could also be directed against the kids from the parents. Drugs never work, but saying these things make a person want to try them more.
" they're gonna rip up your heads, your aspirations to shreds" some parents have one path in mind for their kids and if the teen trys to defy them and now my computer is going dead so. I will stop: D

This song confuses me because of who is singing it. I'm sure that the guys in my chemical romance were all stereotyped like this, like we are so is the fact that they are puting the lyrics out there meaning that they agree with it or that they want to show what people really think about us as a group or whole? And to make them feel like idiots or what?
