My Chemical Romance – Dead! lyrics

And if your heart stops beating,
I'll be here wondering;
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life.

And if you get to Heaven,
I'll be here waiting, babe,
Did you get what you deserve?
The end, and if your life won't wait,
Then your heart can't take this!

[Chorus:]
Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say,
I think they never liked you anyway.
Oh, take me from the hospital bed!
Wouldn't it be grand?
It ain't exactly what you planned,
And wouldn't it be great if
We were dead.
Oh, dead.

Tongue-tied and oh-so squeamish,
You never fell in love,
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life.

And if you get to Heaven,
I'll be here waiting, babe;
Did you get what you deserve?
The end and if your life won't wait,
Then your heart can't take this!

[Chorus:]
Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say,
I think they never liked you anyway.
Oh, take me from the hospital bed!
Wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand,
And wouldn't it be great if we were dead?

And in my honest observation,
During this operation,
Found a complication,
In your heart, so long.
'Cause now you've got,
Maybe just two weeks to live,
I said, "Is that the most the both of you can give!"

(Guitar solo)

One, two,
One, two, three, four!
La la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la
Well c'mon
La la la la la
La la la la l'oh la
La la la la la la la

(Continue lalala)

Oh, motherfucker
If life ain't just a joke
Then why are we laughing?
If life ain't just a joke
Then why are we laughing?
If life ain't just a joke
Then why are we laughing?
If life ain't just a joke
Then why am I dead?

Dead!

I think it's like someone talking to the Patient. Probably a doctor, but like one who knows him well. But it's talking to him either when he's on his death bed or actually dead, the second making more sence.
Saying how he was a pretty bad person when he was alive (maybe paired with House Of Wolves, because it talks about how he was trying to figure out if he would go to heaven or hell, because he'd sinned, and he ends up thinking he's going to hell?). Because they say "did you get what you deserve?" like 'did karma come back to bite you? ' Maybe the "you never fell in love" part is saying how the Patient never fell in love, he just hurt those who loved him.
And they're saying how like at his funeral no one really had anything nice to say because he wasn't a good man; they didn't like him all too much. But then maybe they miss him, because it says "wouldn't it be great if we were dead?" like they want to be dead so they can see him again. And "is that the most the both of you can give", might be his close ones yelling at the doctors for not being able to save him.
That's my take on it. =]
Awesome song though, and my favorite band ever.

I think it means like when your life is just about over you see all your memories go by you and sorta makes a little story that your going through and you finally have an ending, and your in the hospital on your death bed like depth said, and you finally wonder "what was i thinking,i really got what i deserved for living this life like i did,no love, always complaining,i should of listened to them..."
Don't take my comment as a oh this is making fun of emo kids, well it's not, cuz I am one, and this song means the world to me.

I think this song is about a man(or woman)who's dieing or something of the sort talking to themselfs. Wondering if anyone will miss them they soon relize that their life was fake. None of their "friends" achually liked them all to much and they never had a "real love" just things like little flings durring and or after parties. They have tooken their life for grantide and as a joke and they are just relizing it. I think that's also the idea of this song. "do what you want with your life because after all it is yours, but be smart and don't waste it. Have friends and finid love. "

I think it about this man who has been a like really bad man and he knows that everyone is out to get him so he wants to be dead.
When the doctor is speaking I think he has spoken to the man and has helped him to die.
Where it says that they never had much nice to say, I think that is because off all the bad things that he has done, it think its linking to house of wolves another great song!
This is my opinion so I don't mind if you disagree! :)

This song has to be about something along the lines of this: a man is died from something comparable to cancer (something uncurable and giving people only 2 weeks left to live) and is drifting from talking to theirself and a 'loved one. ' then, he starts to mock the doctors for knowing what was wrong (a cardiac issue) and not being able to fix it. And I think the more comical tone is to show that the singer/narrator is showing his life was nothing but a joke. But, overall, I think that it is in the third person. Amazing song on another note! ;)
