OneRepublic – I Lived lyrics
Hope when you take that jump
You don't feel the fall

Hope when the water rises
You built a wall

Hope when the crowd screams
They're screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs
You choose to stay

Hope that you fall in love
And it hurts so bad
The only way you can know
You gave it all you had
And I hope that you don't suffer
But take the pain

Hope when the moment comes,
You'll say

I, I, I
I did it all
I, I, I
I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
Yeah with every broken bone
I swear I lived

Hope that you spend your days
And they all add up

And when that sun goes down
Hope you raise your cup
Oh, oh oh
I wish that I could witness
All your joy
And all your pain

But until my moment comes
I'll say

I, I, I
I did it all
I, I, I
I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
Yeah with every broken bone
I swear I lived

Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh (x4)

With every broken bone
I swear I lived
With every broken bone
I swear I

I, I, I
I did it all
I, I, I
I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
Yeah with every broken bone
I swear I lived

Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh (x2)
I swear I lived
Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh (x2)

The video for this song does give a lot of insight into the meaning. I also believe it is a love letter of sorts to another person who is facing an obstacle in their life. At this time in my life, it comes across to me as a letter to a child who is facing a difficult and scary time in his life that must be overcome. The person sharing the words of the lyrics is hoping that the child or younger person faces what she is up against in order to live life to the fullest.

I was on my way home to my sister's funeral. I heard I lived on the radio. It caught my attention. I downloaded onto my phone put my ear plugs in and listened to the words. I knew that this was the song that had to be played at her funeral. This was exactly who she was. She lived and did it all. Walked through her pain in life and came out on the other side to experience her joy and hope. I know she loved it being played at her funeral.

I believe that 'I lived' was just a song about taking jumps and risks in life. Sometimes you can't just play it safe. You need to get out there and sometimes that means being the outcast. I promise once you make that step away from the everyone else then others will follow your example. In life there will be setbacks but you have to just keep going and never live with regret because if what you did made you better then it's a great thing you will have joy and pain and broken bones but through all of that will come character and strength that will build you up. Never take the easy way out of a situation because it probably won't work in the end.

For me I lived was hope in a song. If you give something all you have it may not turn out that badly in the end you just need to wait it out and put everything you have left into it because it means something to you. Also that it isn't as bad as it may seem.

I fell off a 40th cliff looking for surf and survived with some fractured ribs, a laceration on my liver and my heart valve ripped, plus a memory loss from the accident. So this song reminds myself to feel so good about my life and appreciated more of thing to come. Every angle and every shape or form.

Surprisingly I did not even know that this song existed until recently. My brother passed away in 2014 and only recently I heard the lyrics of this song and I just thought of him. This song described him. He was outgoing, fun loving and always willing to try something new. He was a Flight Attendant and visited a lot of different countries. He lived life to the fullest and I am sure had no regrets. We all just miss him terribly and will always love him.

To me, this song is about facing up to your fears and not letting them get in the way because you don't know when your life will come to an end and when it does you will want to be able to say you have achieved things and created memories you will keep with you forever, and then you'll want to be able to say "I lived. I did the things I never thought I could and I did them. I lived my life to the best it could be."

For me "I Lived" was a love letter ", but somewhat of a different kind. It's as though this person in the song is wishing and hoping that all of what life has to offer, emotional pain (broken bones), challenges (water rising/building a wall), their success and failures, to always give it all you can and make every day count. This person is saying these things to those who were once in his life and that he acknowledges and owns up for his mistakes while he lived, but although he's no longer alive to be present to witness and experience all their joys and all their pain he's sharing a life lesson by passing along a message. That each person who touched his life not to feel saddened over the loss but to celebrate the life their given.

It was written for his 4 year old son. Telling him to live every moment and take every opportunity life has to offer.
For me, the song is the same meaning as my favourite quote. Life is not measured by the breaths you take but the moments that take your breath away.
A reminder that to live and exist are an ocean apart.
