Flyleaf – Sorrow lyrics
Sometimes life seems too quiet
Into paralyzing silence
Like the moonless dark
Meant to make me strong

Familiar breath of my old lies
Changed the color in my eyes
Soon he will perforate the fabric of the peaceful by and by

Sorrow lasts through this night
I'll take this piece of you
And hold for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole
As you flew right through me

Left alone with only reflections of the memory
To face the ugly girl
That's smothering me
Sitting closer than my pain
He knew each tear before it came
Soon he will perforate the fabric of the peaceful by and by

Sorrow lasts through this night
I'll take this piece of you
And hold for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole
As you flew right through me

And we kiss each other one more time
And sing this lie that's halfway mine
The sword is slicing through the question
So I won't be fooled by his angel light

Sorrow lasts through this night
I'll take this piece of you
And hold for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole
As you flew right through me
And up into the stars

Joy will come!

Well this song is awesome just like all of Flyleaf's songs haha but if you notice, most songs pertain to religious things. Like in Do You Hear Waht I Hear? It ties to baby Jesus. All Around Me speaks of angels, in ok Tina, she praying to God near the end so basically this one is about good and bad, God and the Deviil. This proves that they may sound goth, but they're not. I think Lacey sings aout God to remind herself how she's not alone in bad times.

I interpret this into unicorns. There. Every meaning is crap now because of my logic. Who's to say I'm wrong? You just said in a messed up way that the artist can never keep it as their's once it's released to public. That's wrong though because since the artist made it they can choose to either patent their expression or leave it as it is for who ever. Flyleaf as patented their meaning and it is 100% for god. They express that in every way they can, when they write letters in the album booklets, when they post on line somewhere, when they speak out at concerts. It's documented everywhere. Yes the song could move you to remember a lost person and other things but the true meaning and message remains constant so you're always going to be wrong or missing something in some way if you don't work to actually understand it. Music is art but some carry specific messages that can be misunderstood if not guided correctly. This is a great example for those exact messages. This song is purely a godly message from the heart of the artist.

Okay, guys, I'm going to help you all by telling you something about art (and music is art).
Art is 100% the artist's expression, and then other people see it and its 100% other people's interpretation.
Once you let your art out into the world, it's no longer strictly yours. You may make something with a specific meaning in mind, but when other people look at it and see something else, then it's that too.
In short, everyone who has posted a meaning on this site is right. If for one person, they think this song is about god, then yes, it is. And if another person thinks it's about a boyfriend dying, then yes, it is about that.
It is about whatever you interpret it as.

It sounds like a dying boyfriend to me. "Soon he will perforate the peaceful by and by" is figurative for dying. "For just one second I felt whole as you flew right through me" can be interpreted as the actual death, and his spirit passing through her before dissapating. "Kiss each other one more time and sing this lie that's halfway mine" Who's would the other half be? Who would she kiss goodbye?

I think most of Flyleaf's songs relate to thier lives and how they have lived or are living them. If you know anything about them, they are Christians. They believe in God but I think they sing of hope. That there is light in the darkness of this world. On the other side, I think thier songs can relate to anyone. If you listen to thier lyrics, you can take from them what you want.

Why do you assume its "god", "soon he will perforate the fabric of the Peaceful by and by. " Does "god " do that? >>>i agree to failgo. Guys do you even understand what's the meaning of perforate? Check your dictionary pls.
1: to make a hole through; especially: to make a line of holes in to facilitate separation
2: to pass through or into by or as if by making a hole
    intransitive verb.

This song means that God is coming back. The moonless dark is the apocolypse. Familiar breath of my old lies is judgment day. Soon he will perforate the fabric of the peacful by and by means that he is going to change the peacfulness of the world. Ill take this piece of you and hold for all eternity is that her "friend" went to heaven and she didn't. Like "as u flew right threw me" (he went she didnt). Left alone with only reflections of my memory. To face the ugly girl. That's smothering me. Sitting closer than my pain. He knew each tear before it came. That means that you are being tested by God. The sword is slicing through the question. So I won't be fooled by his angel light. Don't be fooled by the antichrist. As you flew right through me
And up into the stars. Like I said, he went to heaven (up into the stars) and she didn't (flew right threw me) people should think twice about this song.
