Breaking Benjamin – I Will Not Bow lyrics
Fall!

Now the dark begins to rise
Save your breath
it's far from over
Leave the lost and dead behind
Now's your chance to run for cover
I don't want
to change the world
I just want to leave it colder
Light the fuse
and burn it up
Take the path that leads to nowhere
All is lost
again, but I'm not giving in

I will not bow, I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall, I will not fade
I will take your breath away

Fall!

Watch the end through
dying eyes
Now the dark is taking over
Show me where forever dies
Take the fall and run to heaven
All is lost again, but I'm not giving in

I will not bow, I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall, I will not fade
I will take your breath away

And I'll survive, paranoid
I have lost the will to change
And I am not proud, cold blooded, fake
I will
shut the world away

I will not!

I will not bow, I will not break
I will shut the world away
I
will not fall, I will not fade
I will take your breath away

And I'll survive, paranoid
I
have lost the will to change
And I am not proud, cold blooded, fake
I will shut the
world away

Fall!

"the darkness that surrounds us cannot hurt us. It is the darkness in our own hearts we should fear. " the meaning of this song goes deeper than just a sole persons troubles. It speaks of angels and demons in that the darkness poured upon us by society and by those around us isn't something we should fight against, but rather embrace. It speaks of inner knowing, rather than fear. Just because ones given path is not one that another would choose to tke does not mean their not human. The message is simple: no matter how many times you fall, or take the wrong path, and regardless of your own paranoia, pain, and suffering, do not change for the benefit of others. Stand strong and be who you are. That's what truly takes others breath away.

Its an addiction, telling the soul that its haning on to, that it will not back down to destorying everything you once were. I am an addict in recovery, and this is what this song means to me. The addiction will always be inside of me, reaching to come to the surface, to once again destroy everything that I am. I will rise above, I will come out on top, but always in my mind, my addiction will be lurking.

The devil is soon coming to rise again. He is warning us. Watch the end through dying eyes now the dark is taking over show me where forever dies take the fall and run to heaven all is lost again but I'm not giving in. Watch the end through dying eyes. New world order is our end of freedom and we will watch it happen because most of us are too scared to fight. Now the dark is taking over show me where forever dies. Dark meaning the dark lord and its followers and show me where forever dies is agreeing to be initiates where they promise you immortality yet lie. He says take the fall and run to heaven. So do so.

This song is about being who you are, even if no one, not even you, know who that is. It is about being true to yourself even if you feel like your life has no meaning or purpose and not letting anyone tell you who to be or what you should do in life. It's not about changing the world, its about leaving behind whatever mark you decide you want to leave behind.

In this song ben writes a conversation between two people. One person is ben himself, or a person who tries to deliver a message of hope and the second is a caricature of a person who is too headstrong and arrogant to accept help. If you know the band and where they stand it's easy to understand it. Ben is really clever in his writing, so not everyone understands the song. The band is called breaking benjamin. Ben made the band to break himself. This song is about the opposite of what they stand for. The character will not break, will not bow. They leave the world in darkness.
The song starts out with a statement, "fall! " this conversation starts after the fall of the world.
The first four lines are from the character or perspective of hope.
Now the dark begins to rise.
Save your breath it's far from over.
Leave the lost and dead behind.
Now's your chance to run for cover.
After the fall dark rises, but it's not over. The voice says leave the lost, take hope. The next four lines is the other characters reply. You'll notice ben changes his voice, it's almost a high and whiney voice.
I don't want to change the world.
I just want to leave it colder.
Light the fuse and burn it up.
Take the path that leads to nowhere.
All is lost again, but I'm not giving in.
The character does not wish to change the state of the fallen world. He takes the path that leads to nowhere. Then the chorus kicks in, from the second perspective, the character refuses to bow. Refuses to break although he very well should. (big band culture note, they're called breaking benjamin).
In the next verse a second chance is offered by the first voice.
Watch the end through dying eyes.
Now the dark is taking over.
Take the fall and run to heaven.
The voice said to run to cover, run to heaven, run to home.
Again the second character says "all is lost again, but i'm not giving in. "
Repeat the chorus again and again. We see the character will survive, paranoid, which is no way to live. There should be a period in one of the lines. I am not proud. Cold blooded, fake. The character dodges all cares for other people, all hope to change himself or the world. Change is required to move forward, the character has fallen behind.
The world is fallen, the character falls! After the first chorus statement, and then finally falls! Again after the last repeating chorus tantrum.
This song isn't a good fist-shaking song to be proud of. It's a sad look at a situation that actually happens in the world made from the tender heart of writer. I think ben draws this to tell about the situation he sees and hopefully illustrate the story so others can see it and learn from it.
To stand first you must bow. To be whole first you must be broken.

My own personal opinion of what this song means is: life is a living hell that constantly pushes you to your limits and past them. It breaks you down. So many people in the world allow it to take their lives, force them down and not get back up. But, there are rare individuals who refuse to give in. They do not bow, they do not break, they do not fall, and they do not fade. They do not change who they are to fit in, or to please others. They force their way through life, proving that they are strong enough to handle whatever is thrown at them, and continue on. They prove that they're superior in terms of strength and will, and they'll prove to the world just how strong they are, what they're capable of doing. They get knocked down, just like the rest of us. The only difference is, they don't stay down. They always have the strength to get back up, and continue. They are the strongest of us all.

It's someone saying they have been pushed around and brushed off, now they will leave their mark on the world. They will not stop until they get what they deserve even if you have to kill and die. They will not bow to someone, they will not break, they will shut out everyone and thing, they will not fall or fade, and the will take what they want by taking everyone's last breath.

The picture that comes to mind is this: a darkness falling over a city, tearing it to shreds. He keeps stopping to give advice. Advice #1: save your breath, it's far from over. Advice #2: leave your lost loved ones behind, they'll want you to take cover. When all is lost, he's still not giving in; he won't break/fall/fade/bow. People watch the dark take over while they're dying, finally they fall and flee to heaven, but he's still not giving in. He will survive- though paranoid- through the darkness. But even so he is not proud. And even though he is harsh he is not cold blooded or fake. He will shut this world away. He will not give in.

In my mind, for people like me that get tired of being picked on, made fun of, told what to do, and even abused by people that are no different than us, this is to tell those people that treat us in such a way that we will take no more of their crap, and how we win is by overcoming life and us, the nobodies, the ones mentioned on T. V. And make millions in money or overcome feats that will make the world, especially those so called "cool people", see us in a different way and realize that we have much better uses in this world other than just to make others feel better about themselves. I am bobby jones, and I will not bow, thank you.

This song is basically saying that he will not bow to the "normality" of todays standards and the way society thinks you should be. I personally love this song and I think it is Breaking Benjamin's best song to date. It's edgy and has a great message with powerful lyrics. And if nobody likes what I'm doing or how I'm doing it, then that's fine. Because I know how to "Shut The World Away!"

To me the song represents pretty much the darkness and shadows of my life. Even though I may feel like my life has no meaning and is falling to pieces all around me, I will never give in to it, even if it makes me evil, tainted or even dead to some people. To me, if I gave in to the evils of my life, I would be nothing but a spineless coward and I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

This is a song about a man who sees all the world around him falling and fading into oblivion, while watching those around him fleeing from the end. Yet this lone man stands defiantly as the darkness comes and watches as heaven and earth and life and death and love and hate and reality all fade into nothingness, yet he will stand to fight against it and refuses to pass away.

Actually, what it means is that he will not give up his fight against his condition. He has a disorder called Wet Brain that causes loss of short term memory and is caused by the lack of the ability to absorb vitamin B1. His was caused from alcohol abuse and he has stated now that he wishes he never touched the stuff, and never will again. And this song represents the struggle within himself to overcome his condition and also to never again bow to the pressure of drinking.
