Every time we lie awake
After every hit we take
Every feeling that I get
But I haven't missed you yet

Every roommate kept awake
By every sigh, and scream we make
All the feelings that I get
But I still don't miss you yet

Only when I stop to think about it

I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?

Every time we lie awake
After every hit we take
Every feeling that I get
But I haven't missed you yet

Only when I stop to think about it

I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?

Only when I stop to think
About you, I know
Only when you stop to think
About me, do you know?

I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?
You hate everything about me
Why do you love me?

I hate
You hate
I hate
You love me

I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?

To me, it seems like it's saying he's with someone that he hates, but he can't bring himself to break it off with her or so because he still seems to 'love' her, in a lose sense of the word. Also, he notices that she feels the same way, but even though they're hurting each other through it, neither of them can break it off. Hope that made sense.

I guess it may be just me, but does no one else see how this song has to do with drug addiction? It may have been written as a love song, but this could also very well be about a drug addict talking to the object of his addiction. "I hate everything about you. Why do I love you?" Could be like the guy knows it's horrible for him and it's destroying him, but he can't help his addiction.

It's about someone you can't stand to be with but can't bear being apart from. When you're apart you think of the good times and how much you miss them. When you're together they do nothing but annoy you to the edge of sanity and you wonder why you'd ever want to be near them.

I used to be like this with a boy, but now he doesn't talk to me much anymore so the "can't live with them/can't live without them" mentality deserted me. Now it's just "can't live without them" and I have a stupid crush on a stupid boy who rarely talks to me. And I miss him so much, I wish things would go back to the way they were last year, even if that means I'll hate him too. That's why the song makes sense to me.

Thescotty and mobermo are actually both right. This song is about love / hate relationships of all kinds. Drugs, gir/boyfriends, parents, anything. In the video, there are people from every imaginable angle. The band even talks about how they didn't mean it to be just one thing. Oxymoronic relationships come from everywhere.
