I can't escape this hell,
So many times I've tried,
But I'm still caged inside.
Somebody get me through this nightmare,
I can't control myself!

So what if you can see
The darkest side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe,
It's not the real me.
Somebody help me tame this animal!
(This animal, this animal)

I can't escape myself (I can't escape myself),
So many times I've lied (so many times I've lied),
But there's still rage inside.
Somebody get me through this nightmare,
I can't control myself!

So what if you can see
The darkest side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become!
Help me believe,
It's not the real me.
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become!
Help we believe.
It's not the real me,
Somebody help me tame this animal!

Somebody help me through this nightmare,
I can't control myself!
Somebody wake me from this nightmare,
I can't escape this hell!
(This Animal)
(This Animal)
(This Animal)
(This Animal)
(This Animal)
(This Animal)
(This Animal)

So what if you can see,
The darkest side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become!
Help me believe,
It's not the real me.
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become!
Help me believe,
It's not the real me.
Somebody help me tame this animal,
This animal I have become!

He became the type of person he hates, and realizes that it's pushing the people he cares about away. However, when he tries to change, it's harder then he realizes, so he reaches out to friends/family/lover for help, only part of him doesn't think that they can help.

    He has a dark side.

And it's shown it's ugly face. No one can help him change it, no one can help him out of it. It's a song about the dark side that all human beings have. We wouldn't be human if we didn't have dark inside of us somewhere.

We all have good and bad in us. No matter what..

This song I think is about the darker sides of us all. He doesn't actually say what the animal is, just that it is inside us all.

I feel that it is an interpretation of all our inner demons. That we know they are there and fear when they are shown. We try to control them, but can't. It is not the way we want to be, but we can't change it. This dark trait will never go away, but we can't accept that it is part of us. No matter what anyone does, it will always show its ugly face.
