It's January 1970
Do you remember me
You put me on a boat across the sea,
In the name of victory
But much to my surprise when I arrived
There was no welcoming committee
Instead there was some men for me to kill
And now I see all this is all too real

Then I saw him standing with a bayonet
And as I ran towards him
He hardly broke a sweat
When I took his life
He fell to his knees
And as his eyes began to fade
He whispered softly

Godspeed this letter away from here
I sealed it with my tears and stamped it with my fears
And Godspeed this letter away from you
My work down here is through
I'm on my way to better days and so are you

And in his pocket there I saw a picture of his children and his family
And I began to realize this person I despised in actuality
Was not much different from myself
We prob'ly could have taught each other many things
And now I know it's much too late
Although I couldn't hesitate
I checked his gun and his chamber was empty

Then I saw him standing with a bayonet
And as I ran towards him
He hardly broke a sweat
When I took his life
He fell to his knees
And as his eyes began to fade
He whispered softly

Godspeed this letter away from here
I sealed it with my tears and stamped it with my fears
And Godspeed this letter away from you
My work down here is through
I'm on my way to better days and so are you

Ooh we know not what we've done
And ooh we know not what we've done

Godspeed this letter away from here
I sealed it with my tears and stamped it with my fears
And Godspeed this letter away from you
My work down here is through
I'm on my way to better days and so are you

Its not about the vietnam war but it is apart of it, it was the nigerian civil war called "operation tail-wind" started in january 7 1970, only one biafran soldier survive, all alone, he had no ammo, no escape, so the biafran soldier let the other guy kill him, and he told him to take the letter to the biafran soldiers family, they both speak the same language

About children sent to a place and it drilled into there head kill or be killed war is nasty if the man whos life he took would rather be dead then to fight a useless war both sides were alike men and children just as ours were the man that he killed had killed and he hoped with his dieng that he would not have to fear anymore and with him killing him he hoped his fear would die so the man could get his fear under control

    Like num1 fan said...
he went 2 war without knowing the exact situation...
he saw an enemy, with a bayonet..
    took his life away...

without the main character knowing that the enemy he killed left his gun's chamber empty so that he would end his life and head to heaven(a better place)...

    This song is so touching...

    made me cry...

i wish they make a nice music video for this song

i fully agree wit num1 fan, but id like to ad that the song also says how sometimes we do things and don't fully understand them nor the consequinces of of said actions.
