She got down on hands and knees, one ear against the ground,
Holding her breath to hear something, but the dirt made not a sound tonight

Echoes of songs still lurk on distant foreign shores, where we
Danced just to please the gods that only ask for more, and so it goes

But still we give ourselves to this
We can't spend our lives waiting to live

On cold nights
In a prayer for dawn
But daylight
Isn't what she wants

The concrete
Calls my name again
I'm falling
Through the cracks I slip

The postcard says wish you were here
But I'd rather I was there, holding
On to the simple things before they disappear, that's what I meant

But that was then, and this is now
I'll make it up to you somehow

On cold nights
In a prayer for dawn
But daylight
Isn't what she wants

The concrete
Calls my name again
I'm falling
Though the cracks I slip

A destination
A fading smile

Another station
Another mile
Another day gone

I swore that i will
Be there before dawn
So be there i will

She got down on hands and knees, one ear against the ground,
Holding her breath to hear something, anything at all

The Dirt Whispered, "Child, I'm coming home."

On cold nights
In a prayer for dawn
But the daylight
Isn't what she wants

The concrete
Calls my name again
I'm falling
Though the cracks I slip
I slip
Through the cracks I slip
Through the cracks I slip
Through the cracks I slip
Through the cracks I slip

I think that it is about him being on the road all the time and his daughter wishing he was here. And that is what he is coming home to. Also Tom might be right. idk

Well I think it's a story of a girl wiating for a dad's return most likely form the war probably in Iraq or mabye Pakistan (the dirt represent the Deserts) mainly because alot of their songs are about those subjects and the only thing she wants is to be with her dad before losing him even if it means dying (THe postcard says wish you were here but I'd rather I was there, Holding) and at the end she finnaly gets what she wants when the dirt whispered to her "child I'm comig home"

I think this song is talking about a daughter who is waiting for her dad to come home from war and he told her he'd be home soon, but he is unable to come home and keeps being restationed in different places. And he talks about making it up to her because she thought he'd be home sooner. "through the cracks i slip" means that he is barely able to stand being away from her for so long and he knows how hard it is for her since he was a single parent to her.

I think that the "gods" are the greek gods because the gods ask for more until the hero dies in every greek myth. Thus the line "the concrete calls my name again" the hero dies. But that is just my opinion. And the dirt whispered only happens in the story's of the ancient religions.

I think its about 2 people, whether friends or family being seperated. One is anxiously waiting for the other to return, from war or whatever. Truth is, just like every other rise against song, you can relate it to whatever you want. I personally am having trouble seeing my girlfriend due to travel and such. This song just makes me feel better about it because in the end ill be able to see her everyday. Another reason why they are my all time favourite band xd
