i completely agree with Nightsangel666. that's my outlook on this song as well.

Its definitly about a guy and his relationship with a girl. he found a girl that was different than everyone else. he asked her out and she said yes. she is the flower in the field of weeds. i think that he was using the girl for something and he changed her into something that she didnt want to be. thats the browning petals. so he he let her go and let her return to the normal person that she was. he felt really bad about that and now it makes his heart burn. he realizes that he messed up and wishes that he could have a normal relationship with that person. to him that person is a figurative angel.

I think it's a guys perspective. He's talking about a girl that stood out. (in fields where nothing grew but weeds, i found a flower at my feet.) He took her. (I wrapped a hand around its stem, pulled untill the roots gave in.) discovered she was what he'd always wanted. (finding now what i've been missing) He felt like he was ruinging her. (inside my hands these petals browned, dried up falling to the ground. but it was allready too late now. ) In order to save her he let her go. (i pushed my fingers through the earth, returned this flower to the dirt, so it could live i walked away.) He misses her every day. (Not a day goes by where i dont feel it's burn.) But he crossed the line, and lost his chance. (there's a point we pass from which we can't return.)He's preparing to face life aas he used to again. (I felt the cold rain of the coming storm) When he dreams he dreams of her. (all beause of you i haven't slept in so long, when i do i dream,. ) He feels hopless without her, drowning in guilt, wishing he could reach her. (Of drownig in the ocean, longing for the shore, where i can lay my head down, i'll follow your voice. all you have to do is shout it out.)She changed his life so strongly, (all because of you i believe in angels) he believes she was an angel on earth (not the kind with wings, no not the kind with halos. The kind that bring you home when home becomes a starnge place.) She led him to a place where he could be happy, into her arms.

I think it's about how you are always handed possibilities "pointed in my direction". And you never know when your time is up "I felt the cold rain of the coming storm". "All because of the you, I haven't slept in so long, when I do I dream, Of drowning in the ocean, longing for the shore, where I can lay my head down" You=possibiltiy. Haven't slept in so long, because he doesnt want to miss the possibilty. And when he does sleep he dreams of drowning in the ocean, as in, he failed. Longing for the shore, or the end, or completion. Where I can lay my head down, where I can relax and know I have reached my possibility.
