Its definitly about a guy and his relationship with a girl. He found a girl that was different than everyone else. He asked her out and she said yes. She is the flower in the field of weeds. I think that he was using the girl for something and he changed her into something that she didnt want to be. Thats the browning petals. So he he let her go and let her return to the normal person that she was. He felt really bad about that and now it makes his heart burn. He realizes that he messed up and wishes that he could have a normal relationship with that person. To him that person is a figurative angel.

I think it's about how you are always handed possibilities "pointed in my direction". And you never know when your time is up "i felt the cold rain of the coming storm". "all because of the you, i haven't slept in so long, when i do i dream, of drowning in the ocean, longing for the shore, where i can lay my head down" you=possibiltiy. Haven't slept in so long, because he doesnt want to miss the possibilty. And when he does sleep he dreams of drowning in the ocean, as in, he failed. Longing for the shore, or the end, or completion. Where i can lay my head down, where i can relax and know i have reached my possibility.

This song is about taking girls virginities. (found a flower at my feet, pulled until the roots gave in). And it haunts him. In psycology water represent the female sexuality. (drowning in the ocean. ) then he leaves the girl (returned the flower to the dirt) and is still haunted. It goes on as he grows up, when it is time to leave the nest as your home becomes a strange place. An angel takes you in not the kind with wings, no not the kind with halos... Ya she's going to do naughty things to you. Lol

Not certain on the exact meaning but the feeling is that: it could be either a guy or a girl (a guy imo) that has no joy in life ("the fields where nothing grew but weeds"), then finally he does ("i found a flower at my feet, bending there in my direction. ") but even that is temporary ("inside my hands these petals browned, dried up falling to the ground, but it was already too late now, i pushed my fingers through the earth, returned this flower to the dirt, so it could live, i walked away now... ") and that it's too late for him to change ("there's a point we pass from which we can't return") and needs someone to help him ("all because of you,
i believe in angels, not the kind with wings, no, not the kind with halos, the kind that bring you home, when home becomes a strange place, i'll follow your voice, all you have to do is shout it out").

I believe though that one song may have multiple meanings, like if one person says its one thing and another person something else it could be both

And also it's "lay my head down" (trust me i own the cd and looked in the booklet and i'm 100% certain)

Well first off, this is probably from a girls perspective.

My reasons: the flower metaphor, the author is picking flowers(not usually a guy thing)
someone messed up the lyrics: should be "let my hair down" in place of lay my head down.

So the girl found someone who she thought actually loved her for who she is. (flower in the field of weeds) and this flower was bending towards her (flowers are known to bend towards the nearest light, cool huh? )

Unfortunately, that girl ended up using this person (so i tell myself its wrong) and that person in question left her because of it. And she regrets it.
