My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay lyrics
Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say.
I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.
For all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took,
Remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor?

[Chorus
:]

I'm not okay
I'm not okay
I'm not okay

You wear me out

What will it take to show you that it's not the life it seems?
(I'm not okay)
I told you time and time again you sing the words but don't know what it means
(I'm not okay)
To be a joking look, another line without a hook
I held you close as we both shook for the last time take a good hard look!

[Chorus:]

I'm not okay
I'm not okay
I'm not okay
You wear me out

Forget about the dirty looks
The photographs your boyfriend took
You said you read me like a book, but the pages are all torn and frayed

I'm okay
I'm okay!
I'm okay, now
(I'm okay, now)

But you really need to listen to me
Because I'm telling you the truth
I mean this, I'm okay!
(Trust Me)

I'm not okay
I'm not okay
Well, I'm not okay
I'm not o-fucking-kay
I'm not okay
I'm not okay
(Okay)

    Quote by Gerard:
"When I was writing it, I was remembering how hard it was to be a 16-year-old in high school. I always wanted to be an artist, so I was this loner kid who just got drunk all the time. I only had one real friend. There was a girl I really liked, and she ended up taking really sleazy photographs with her boyfriend, and that really crushed me, I was just swimming in this pit of despair, jealousy and alcoholism."

Gerar knows all! I'm not 16 (I'm 15) but I totally get it. My problems aren't from school - they eminate from home- but I know a lot of people who feel like this. The one quote I really like the best is: "But you really need to listen to me Because I'm telling you the truth I mean this, I'm okay! (Trust Me) I'm not okay I'm not okay Well, I'm not okay I'm not o-fucking-kay" because that shows a person who's really screwed up inside but puts on a strong visage for everyone else to hide their pain.

This song is super meaningful. I am 15 with depression and anxiety and use this song as a healing process. I hear it as someone with depression being honest with their feelings. The part where it says "But you really need to listen to me/Because I'm telling you the truth/Trust me/(I'm okay)" is whomever not saying how they really feel. The line "You said you read me like a book but the pages are all torn and frayed" is like a friend saying he knows the "main character" but the "main character" is saying if you know me, then you would see that I am not okay. Those are some of the reasons that I love this song, and it helped get through 13 months of not cutting. To this day, I am still clean, and I have My Chemical Romance, along with many other artists, of both literature and music, to thank for helping me get and stay here.

I know personally this is a song I turn to for solace during hard times (pretty much every day). To me this is a song that puts everything out there, you're saying "HEY!! Guess what? I'M NOT OKAY!!" It's a song that's upfront that says they don't feel Fine. It doesn't matter what you do, boyfriends, bullying, posers happen, but you take it in stride and the second you can I turn on A band I feel relates to me on that specific day.

I'm 16 right now and I've been asexual since I was 11, I'm rarely attracted to people but I've been attracted to a girl before. When I was 14 a couple girls jumped me and they beat me up, then spread vicious rumors, this is the song that wiped away the tears of a 14 year old who's never been comfortable with herself.

A song promoting that it's okay to not be okay is perfection to me, because I promise that I'm not okay, and I'll need this song in the future to come.

Put up a strong front but sometimes it's ok to break down sometimes, we're all human and we all want to be heard. No one can read your mind, you need to tell people and open up. "Forget about the dirty looks" other people will have it better, you just have to prove that you can rise above them."another line without a hook" even if you're incomplete, you'll manage. Gerard certainly did.

To me it means just wanting to scream and shout that no, I'm not okay. I'm unhappy, sad and I wish somebody would want me, miss me and love me. Maybe I'm not a supermodel, a brainiac or a rich kid but I still want love and attention too, but because it's too much to say and too risky, i'll just say I'm fine and you'll believe me even if I wish you'd notice that I'm not okay :(

My 6 year old girl summed this up perfectly - censored version - everyone is different, and we should be proud of that. Some people are afraid of different, they shouldn't be, different is okay. Different is awesome. I love being different to my friends, and I won't let people make me sad for being different, that's their problem. Not mine. I'll be okay. She also said other kids may be that they're different like in the video but in the future, they WILL be okay.
