Dear mother
Dear father
What is this hell
You have put me through?

Believer, deceiver
Day in, day out
Lived my life through you

Pushed onto me
What's wrong or right
Hidden from this thing
That they call life

Dear mother
Dear father
Every thought
I'd think you'd disapprove

Curator, dictator
Always censoring
My every move

Children are seen
But are not heard
Tear out everything inspired

Innocence
Torn from me
Without your shelter
Barred reality
I'm living blindly

Dear mother
Dear father
Time has frozen still
What's left to be?

Hear nothing, say nothing
Cannot face the fact
I think for me

No guarantee
It's life as is
But damn you
For not giving me my chance

Dear mother
Dear father
Clipped my wings
Before I learned to fly

Unspoiled, unspoken
I've outgrown
That fucking lullaby

Same thing
I've always heard from you
Do as I say
Not as I do

Innocence
Torn from me
Without your shelter
Barred reality
I'm living blindly

(Solo)

I'm in hell without you
Cannot cope without you two
Shocked at the world that I see
Innocent victim
Please rescue me

Dear mother
Dear father
Hidden in your world
You've made for me

I'm seething
I'm bleeding
Ripping wounds in me
That never heal

Undying spite
I feel for you
Living out this hell
You always knew...

This is about parents who don't let their children go out in the world. They try to protect them from everything, but once they leave they cannot leave in the real world.

This song is probably focusing on as many of yall said repression but for james its a personal form of repression since his parents were christian scientists who didnt believe in alot of things that he wanted and sheltered him from what the world was and when they died they left him to learn on his own the extent of the world's cruel ways

i believe this song is talking about the parents who expect their kids to do great things and become their own person, but everytime the opportunity for that comes up the parents tell the child that they cant do that cuz its too dangerous or they dont know what they're doing. it leaves the child wondering how in the hell they are supposed to get experienced for the challenges they will face later in life if they are never given the chance to show the parents that they are ready, willing, and able to do the great things that their parents expect.

man if you think all those bands are like the greatest, then you need to listen to alot more music. and if you think that metallica is the best thrash metal band, thats not good either...you should listen to more thrash. not just one band is the best...

Scratch that metallica trumps all other bands but by all other bands I am going to exclude a few: Def lepard, Bullet for my Valintine, All that Remains, System of a Down, and more like that, they dont trump them but they are better in my opinion.
