I love this song -it describes what humans ultimately do to themselves -None of us are perfect but we can strive to be the best we can be.
Only Jesus is capable of helping us get to heaven, and we have to realise this and ask for help in order to be saved.
What we do is literally create our own prison -through the wrongs we do -our sins.
