Meaning
This song touches me on a personal level, having a long distance relationship myself. I have to wait until I finish high school to even visit my boyfriend, then I have to finish college/uni until I go to live with him. Having this experience makes me more capable of understanding the song's lyrics and meaning. The guy who wrote this song is obviously in a band and must go on tour from time to time, and leave his girlfriend behind. His girlfriend, however, feels that he cannot give her what she needs, such as attention, quality time, and sex that is essential to a relationship and not having that is hard sometimes. While he is gone away, she has to remain faithful and wait until he gets home to receive any of this, so it is understanding that she would want to break up. Even though the guy seen this break up coming, he was still taken by surprise and was in denial. The guy felt like he would never be genuinely happy again, and when the girl suggests they be friends, he rejects her. He does not want to be just friends with the girl that once meant so much to him. "I'm not some boy that you can sway" is him telling the girl that he is not going to be one of those boys that she just tosses to the side and watches her fall in love with someone else while he still has intense feelings for her. If you think otherwise, please leave your own opinion so others could read and get an accurate idea of the song's meaning.

be friends
I'm not some boy that you can sway
We knew it'd happen eventually

La, la la la la la la

Now Everybody's singing

La, la la la la la la
This whole song is about a relationship in which the guy is gone away often, being in a band and such, and the girl feels that he cannot give her what she needs (the basic attention and quality time that is essential in a relationship). This particular part, however, is telling about their breakup. He is in denial and cannot believe that it's happening, although he had predicted it. He is so heartbroken that he feels he will never be truly happy again and he does not want to be just another friend of her, because the feelings they shared were so intense and it would be hard talking to her "normally" (I assume).

I believe the artist is trying to say that he can't come back home until.

This is hard to explain, but it is certainly not the above explanation.
This is a metaphor. The artist is referring to his heart once again, but is this time comparing it to a stone. He is telling her to try her best to hurt him, and that she will only end up breaking her own heart.
(This assumption is probably wrong, but it's a far better explanation than the previous one.)

My hope was banished long ago/it took the death of hope to let you go,

So break yourself against my stones,

He wishes that she was not his friend, so that it would be easier to hurt her, and that he never claimed to be innocent. He feels as though he has last all hope and that was why it was easier to let her go and move on. He lost all hope for their relationship. (what ever they were to each other, be it friends or lovers).

The artist is telling her to stop "wasting their breath" because he doesn't want to hear what they have to say anymore, and that she has made it clear that she was incapable of loving. (Hate and love are both very passionate emotions. If you are incapable of hating, you are also incapable of loving).

I couldn't face a life without your light,
But all of that was ripped apart... When you refused to fight,

So save your breath. I will not
The first two lines are pretty self explanatory; he re-reads the letters she wrote him, pressing them to his lips as if they were her lips (I'm assuming).
The last two lines are also very simple. He is saying that he does not want to live in a world without her by his side, and when she "refused to fight" or left him, he was heartbroken.

He is saying that if she loves him, she should let him be free and have his space, but also she should go before he finds out she's leaving to spare him the heartbreak of a goodbye.
