A Day To Remember – If It Means A Lot To You lyrics

And hey darling
I hope you're good tonight
And I know you don't feel right when I'm leaving
Yeah I want it but no I don't need it
Tell me
something sweet to get me by
'Cause I can't come back home till they're singing

La, la
la la la la la

'Til everyone is singing

If you can wait till I get home
Then I swear to you
That we can make this last
(La la la)
If you can
wait till I get home
Then I swear come tomorrow
This will all be in our past
Well it might be for the best

And hey sweetie
Well I need you here tonight
And I know that you don't want to be leaving me
Yeah you want it but I can't help it
I just feel complete when you're by my side
But I know you can't come home 'til they're singing

La, la la la la la la

'Til everyone is singing

La, la la la la la la

If you can wait till I get home
Then I swear to you
That we can make this last
(La la la)
If you can wait till I get home
Then I swear come tomorrow
This will all be in our past
Well it might be for the best

You know you can't give me what I need
And even though you mean so much to me
I can't wait through everything

Is this really happening?
I swear I'll never be happy again
And don't you dare say we can just be friends
I'm not some boy that you can sway
We knew it'd happen eventually

La, la la la la la la

Now Everybody's singing

La, la la la la la la

This song almost saved my relationship with my gf. We have a long distance relationship. After 3 years, she decides that she can no longer wait to see me (even though she see me once every 6 months if either of us can afford it). She broke up with me, left me in the dark. I learned this song on the guitar, flew all the way to where she lives, took a cab to her house and stood outside. I played and sung this song to her to remind her of the hardships I have to go through as well, that in the end it is worth it all. I got a smile out of her from it, then never saw her again. She didn't come out to see me oranything. Broken financially and emotionally, I walked back to the airport. I gave up everything for her and she still wouldn't have me no more. Was it worth it? I think so. I at least tried. I showed her I was still there. This song is a constant reminder that I almost had her, the closest I've gotten. If she doesn't want me when I'm offering up the world, then she doesn't deserve me.

I probably feel this way simply because it applies to my life, but it reminds me of going off to college. You leave behind the one special person, swearing you will be back soon and often. However, as time goes on, coming home isn't as simple as you thought it would be. It sounds to me like she is saying I can't continue to watch you leave, and I can't continue to dream of you being here next to me.
It feels like a few days after a huge fight and the night before he's coming home when she suddenly realized she can't do this any more. Life is taking them in two separate directions, no matter how badly they just want to be together. He swears he can't go on without her and realizes they could never just be friends, but she has herself to take care of and enough faith in him to know that he will be okay.
The truth of it is, they both knew when he went off, it wouldn't work. It hardly ever does. I think the end is saying "We've done what's right, and in some crazy, messed up way, it's brought harmony back into our lives and the lives of everyone we know."

This song touches me on a personal level, having a long distance relationship myself. I have to wait until I finish high school to even visit my boyfriend, then I have to finish college/uni until I go to live with him. Having this experience makes me more capable of understanding the song's lyrics and meaning.

The guy who wrote this song is obviously in a band and must go on tour from time to time, and leave his girlfriend behind. His girlfriend, however, feels that he cannot give her what she needs, such as attention, quality time, and sex that is essential to a relationship and not having that is hard sometimes. While he is gone away, she has to remain faithful and wait until he gets home to receive any of this, so it is understanding that she would want to break up. Even though the guy seen this break up coming, he was still taken by surprise and was in denial. The guy felt like he would never be genuinely happy again, and when the girl suggests they be friends, he rejects her. He does not want to be just friends with the girl that once meant so much to him. "I'm not some boy that you can sway" is him telling the girl that he is not going to be one of those boys that she just tosses to the side and watches her fall in love with someone else while he still has intense feelings for her.

If you think otherwise, please leave your own opinion so others could read and get an accurate idea of the song's meaning.

Ok so alot of people are talking about there ex's
this song has alot of diffrent meanings that seem to touch us in some way we can all agree on that.
    My meaning:.
"if you can wait till I get home then i swear to you that we can make this last"
this song honestly makes me think about someone that is far away from someone they love, and something or someone is keeping them apart. Their trying their hardest to make it threw the day and even though voice is good too its never good enough compared to actuly feeling them next to them.
The la are the people who are trying to keep them away and even though they love eachother deeply, there scared that maybe even just that "la la la la" might just break them apart, but their willing to try to make it last.

The guy is going off to the military and he wants her to wait for him. He asks her to tell him something sweet to get him by, and he can't come home till they're sing la, la. Which means he can't come home until there is no more war. Or until his war is over. She is having trouble with the distance and the stress of it all so she just wants to be friends in the end.
