The Keane Brothers – Sherry lyrics
I never met a girl like you
Tell me why, do you do the things you do
I loved the day I found you
Wrapped my arms around you
[Chorus:]
Sherry don't say good-bye
You got to satisfy
This pain in my heart for you
Sherry don't say good-bye
You'll only make me cry
I'm falling in love with you
Sherry I wanna marry you
Sherry don't say good-bye
Kind of like to think that I'm still in love with you
Well if you, Sherry only loved me too
I hope and pray you don't leave me
Sherry I still need you
[Chorus:]
Sherry don't say good-bye
You got to satisfy
This pain in my heart for you
Sherry don't say good-bye
You'll only make me cry
I'm falling in love with you
Sherry I wanna marry you
Sherry don't say good-bye
[Instrumental]
One of these days I'm gonna buy you a diamond ring
Slip it on your finger when those church bells start to ring
I loved the day that I found you
Wrapped my arms around you
[Chorus:]
Sherry don't say good-bye
You got to satisfy
This pain in my heart for you
Sherry don't say good-bye
You'll only make me cry
I'm falling in love with you
Sherry I wanna marry you
Sherry don't say good-bye
(Repeat and ad-lib last line then fade away)

My take is Sherry is kind of a free spirit much too young for commitment. Our protagonist has likely had a brief encounter with Sherry or maybe not at all like the character in the Doobie Brothers ' "What A Fool Believes." Here he begs her to stay or come back when it's obvious she perhaps is unaware our hero has fallen for her. Maybe he is just a friend like the hero of "Jet" by Paul McCartney and Wings when he finds out Jet, the object of his secret desire has decided to marry another guy with the line " And Jet, I thought the only lonely place was on the moon!"
