Imagine Dragons – Demons lyrics
When the days are cold
And the cards all fold
And the saints we see
Are all made of gold

When your
dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood's run stale

I wanna
hide the truth
I wanna to shelter you
But with the beast inside
There's nowhere we can hide

No matter
what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come

When you
feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get
too close
It's dark inside
It's where my demons hide
It's where
my demons hide

When the
curtain's call
Is the last of all
When the lights fade out
All the sinners crawl

So they dug your
grave
And the masquerade
Will come calling out
At the mess you've made

Don't wanna let you
down
But I am hell bound
Though this is all for you
Don't want to hide the truth

No matter what we
breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come

This is my kingdom come

When you feel my heat

Look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close
It's
dark inside
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide

They say it's what you
make
I say it's up to fate
It's woven in my soul
I need to let you go

Your eyes, they shine so bright

I wanna save that light
I
can't escape this now
Unless you show me how

When
you feel my heat
Look
into my eyes
It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close
It's dark inside

It's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
(Hide hide hide)

I think when he says " look into me eyes, it's where my demons hide", I think he's battling problems. As if he has depression. And there's almost a monster in him. Only showing himself now and then, but you can see how broken he is in his eyes.
Also, I think he wants this girl to understand,.
Hey, don't get to close. I have a lot of issues that you probably don't care about, and probably shouldn't.
But I can't be happy without you.
So he's trying to tell her that he needs her, to help him with the demons, and when they become too much, he has her to look into his eyes and make it all alright again.

I believe this song is about a man who knows he has darkness inside of him. He is trying to hide the truth of what the world is like to someone he loves. As said in the first lines that the saints we see are all made of gold means the only good we see are people in the past like saints. He knows what the world is like and wishes to shelter the one he loves from knowing. But at the same time his soul is turning dark and wants to protect the person from what he has become.

This song is telling all of us that there is things in our past we are not proud of an also that we put on a smile even when we are struggling with something going on that know on knows. Whether it is abuse in the home, a lose, memories of the past that we survived yet ashamed to share with any one. Afraid that others may think different of us because of it. As a survivor of abuse I can tell you that when your dealing with it you are afraid to tell any one out of fear that they will blame you instead of the abuser for why it is happening, there is a lot of people in this world that are cruel an don't seem to understand as they are not in your shoes so you keep it bottled up on the inside thus "demons" hiding it from the ones you love. Afraid of rejection from others around us. But if you watch the video you will understand there is meaning behind the song as it is in memory of a young man fighting cancer yet he still manages to put a smile on his face despite the disease that is trying to take him down. All ways remember that there is always someone to turn to that can help you through any situation that's when you find out who your true friends are.

"Demons" spent twelve weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The song peaked at number six.
The song is all about Kelly Clarkson once sang about everyone having a dark side. Las Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons are doing the same, but in a different, guitar-driven way, with their song "Demons".
We all have some sort of demons inside us. We all fight them. We don’t always succeed in defeating them, but we try just the same. In this song, in which the band sounds like an Americanized Coldplay, the protagonist is waging that internal battle.
Here's our read of the song"
"When the days are cold / And the cards all fold / And the saints we see / Are all made of gold."
Things are not always what they seem, except, perhaps, when things start going south? Is that when the true colors are seen and when someone shows they are made of gold? Or do they let their dark side prevail? You find out if the tough get going when the going gets tough.
"I wanna hide the truth / I wanna shelter you / But with the beast inside / There's nowhere we can hide."
Despite his best efforts, the narrator cannot bury or drown the dark side. He is making a valiant effort to protect someone from experiencing that element of his personality, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Perhaps it’s best to stop stuffing it down and let it out and move on, since trying and failing to suffocate it can only exacerbate the problem and create further tension. Resolve the conflict and move on, maybe?
"No matter what we breed / We still are made of greed / This is my kingdom come / This is my kingdom come."
Ah, the band uses a bit of a religious metaphor. We can try to live a good life, but there are still elements of darkness. It’s best to accept and acknowledge it, and manage things from there.
That’s our interpretation of Imagine Dragons' "Demons". What do you think PopCrushers? Do you find a different deeper meaning in the song?

I think he's depressed. He needs help. He loves someone, but doesn't believe that he's good enough for them. The demons inside of him are hiding, to try to attract people. Them come to him, but he knows. He tries to warn them, "Don't get to close, it's dark inside. He realizes this person needs to "Show me how" to get through these hard times.

Imagine Dragons, bravo. They've realized all the greed of the world, and they want everyone to realize it. So, the song means that they are greedy - we all are - on the inside, and he wants to protect the one he loves from greed. He wants to hide the truth from her to protect her. He wants to keep her safe from himself, and from all greedy people. But the truth is, he's trying to protect herself from not only him, but he's protecting her from everyone - including herself. And he believes the only way to "save" her is to let her go. Sorry, Imagine Dragons, but beep! Wrong. But near the end of the song, where he says "I can't escape this now, unless you show me how". He finally realized that everyone is made of greed and that no matter what he does or what he tries, he just can't protect her. So the best he can do is keep her, until she shows him if she does or does not love him. "No matter what we breathe, we are still made of greed" is exactly the definition of this song. And no, it is not "breed", it's "breathe". Hope this helped, and Imagine Dragons, I hope you keep making awesome songs!

I think this song is about a man that has darkness inside him. That darkness is a secret that he doesn't want that girl she loves to know. He wants to protect that girl from him and to those people with darkness inside. He wants to hide the truth to protect that girl but the beast, that darkness inside of him makes it possible. No matter how he want to protect that girl, there's nowhere that they can hide from the darkness. No matter what they breed (meaning: no matter where they came from), they are still made of greed. He is one of those that are made of greed that's why he said that it's his kingdom come, it's where he came from. He tried to tell the truth to the girl by her, to look in his eyes to know that it's where his demons hide, it is the darkness inside of him that hide. He wants to tell the truth and wants her to know that it's dark inside so she must not get close. It's his way to protect her. I think, in the verse 2, it means that because of him that loved her, he made a mess maybe reason for his fellow to come calling out to him. He don't want the girl down but he can't do something because he is hell bound. He has limits because of his secret. Though it's all for the protection of the girl he loves, he can't always hide the truth from her forever. He doesn't want to hide the truth now. In the bridge part, they say it's what you make but for the girl, it's up to fate. Fate is what making it, not the man. Maybe the girl finally understand that maybe they're really not for each other. The girl was hurt, the scar and the truth that they're not meant for each other is woven in her soul so she needs to let him go. The man wants to protect the light he saw in her eyes but he can't escape the darkness unless the girl will fight and give a reason for the man how to escape it so that they can be together.

This song, indeed make a story. I don't know if that's what it truly means. For me, I just shared how I understand this song. From the very first time I listened to this song, I think I already know what this song is trying to express. I learned something from this song. Hope you'll find out and learned to know what I am talking about.

This song is about being on heroin, when you start out the day you are freezing cold till you see your dealer - who is the only person you care about seeing, who seems like a saint coming to save you from being sick, and they are all about getting your gold, serving the gold, they seem golden when they finally show up, and they are stacking the gold due to the person's addiction. When a heroin addict gets high their body gets warm and their pupils turn pinpoint so you can look in their eyes and feel the heat off their body and see the demons they are hiding. "Chasing the dragon" is a reference to doing heroin so I always assumed Imagine Dragons were singing about their past struggles with drugs. All their lyrics seem like someone or all of them had an addiction or was dealing drugs in the past and ended up starting over at some point and starting a new chapter down a healthier and more successful road in life.

That he has 2 sides good and dark. He want to protect his loved ones but his dark sides will not accept it so he cannot protect loved ones and people will learn about it dark sides there a crying soul in his heart and its trapped almost woven and destroyed the soul in his heart actually is love to protect his loved ones. And he is trapped in a very torturing place like hell he doesn't want people to know about his pain.

The song is about someone who is behind a mask and all he sees is people around him going about their lives while he is in pain. Someone reaches out to him but he doesn't want the help because he believes he is to broken from the world. He uses his inner demons to control his emotions but then he realises he an be fixed. But he doesn't know how to take his mask away.

Most powerful and touching line in this song is "Unless you show me how." He wants to escape, he needs a light to outcast his darkness. He is not totally overcome by darkness because he sees hope. There's always hope for everyone in this world, and that is through the light we share to others. In other words, be the light in this world so that others can find hope through you.

I always listened to this song without paying any real attention to the lyrics until yesterday, and I am appalled at them! This is a clear declaration that this person has demons inside and instead of fighting them with the grace of God, he embraces them! Not only that but brags about them. He calls the good bad and the bad good, not too many people will understand this post but if you are one of the few, don't listen to it again and do not support this band.

I agree with several other posters - this song is from the perspective of someone who is struggling and dealing with some deep problems. However, I also think this song is an abuser's anthem: the singer is making the person he is singing to responsible for his emotional state; I'm simultaneously warning you away for your safety, but telling you that my failures are your fault for not being there. It's clearly laid out in the last verse: "Your eyes they shine so bright / I wanna save that light / I can't escape this now / Unless you show me how." The first two lines are a warning; the rest of the song indicates that in order for the subject's "light" to be saved, that person must leave the singer behind. And then the singer turns around and begs them not to go. It's manipulative, it's abusive, and it's unacceptable behaviour. If I had a friend whose partner treated them like this, I would advise them to leave.

Not certain but perhaps there has been some occult practices involved here that makes the singer know the Truth, about heaven and earth, the apocalypse, God's kingdom come. However since he sings from the negative side of knowing this truth, perhaps he fears his occult involvement (demons) puts him on the side of the unsaved sinners, and why he feels hell bound. He sings about someone whose eyes shine so bright, like they are pure and filled with the Holy Spirit, he states he can't escape his fate unless this person shows him how ---- a big "..." dot that I will fill in -- through surrender to Jesus.

A person is seeing his loved one failing in life... falling towards darkness. Loosing light, hope. He wants to shelter her. Protect her by keeping her in allusion of success but he can't help her in this way. He has to tell her about the ugly truth. He want to save her from every demon crossing her path. But he has to tell her about the ugliness. He encourage her to get up on her feet and fight her demons. He is by her side.

To me, it sounds like this song might be about post-traumatic stress disorder. He is haunted by the things he has seen and done (these are his "demons"). Even if he acts like everything is fine, the truth can be seen in his eyes. And the line, "don't get too close, it's dark inside" refers to that people with PTSD are often hard to be close to, and/or have a hard time being close to, because they have seen the darkness within themselves and others, and they cannot trust people anymore. This is just my interpretation of the song, based on my own experiences as someone with minor PTSD.
(On a side note, this song kind of reminds me of Nico di Angelo from the Heroes of Olympus book series in a way)

I know this seems unusual, but think it's about a father trying to protect his daughter form the outside world. But since he is as bad as everyone outside, he can't protect her. He thinks if he doesn't tell her about the "demons" she will grow up innocent, but then he realizes that these demons are in him and he can't protect her from himself.

I think the song tells us that we're are all humans no one is perfect we all have a dark side that we try to hide from the world we smile despite the fact that we're hurting inside, we do all that to protect the ones we love but we forget that we can not do it all alone at some point we'll need somebody to encourage us, to be there with us , someone that doesn't judge us based on your past mistakes but helps us to do better in life.

The song is about how a person is facing so many problems in life. These are the demons in which the song talks about. The chorus is just about how if the eyes are the window to the soul then the soul holds demons. Fears, problems. Things like being abused, having a family member fatally ill or dead. The demons in which people face.

I think the demons are problems of that man. It may also mean some bad qualities or something. Also the man wants to save the girl from his demons, i.e. problems/bad qualities. I just love Imagine Dragons. Their songs are sooo good!

My son is a pitcher in baseball. He told me this morning when we heard this on the radio that this is his "on the mound song". He said that if you let it, it can be sad to watch batters go down. But that the need to win, for both himself and the team, is his demon. He says he embraces his demons on the mound and smiles on the inside when a batter goes down. He's 13 years old.

The artist of this song feels that every single person on this earth is doomed to hell. That is so wrong. There is an escape from the control of the demons that have hold in your life. You aren't doomed to hell. I know you have heard this many times however if you accept the love and grace that jesus has for you in your heart then you will not go to hell but spend an eternity in eternal joy and happiness. This song is full of lies. No one has to be doomed to hell. No matter what you've done no matter who you've hurt. As bad as you yourself may feel God will forgive you for every single thing you have done. He sacrificed his own son on the cross so that others may be free from the sin that is holding them down in their life. Please I don't know who will read this but accept Jesus into your heart today.

I believe the song is about someone who is abusive. Someone that has a demon inside that they try to hide but they know they can't hide it when provoked. Who they are will never change b/c they don't know how to change it. -i want to hide the truth, I want to shelter you, but with the beast inside there is no where we can hide. " -when you feel my heat, look into my eyes, it's where my demons hide, it's where my demons hide. "
