Foo Fighters – Let It Die lyrics
Heart of gold but it lost its pride
Beautiful veins and bloodshot eyes
I've seen your face in another light
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

Why'd you have to go and let it die?
Why'd you have to go and let it die?
In too deep and out of time.
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

A simple man and his blushing bride
Intravenous, intertwined
Hearts gone cold your hands were tied
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

Why'd you have to go and let it die?
Why'd you have to go and let it die?
In too deep and out of time.
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

Do you ever think of me?
You're so considerate.
Do you ever think of me?
Oh, so considerate.

In too deep and lost in time
Why'd you have to go and let it die?
Beautiful veins and bloodshot eyes
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

Hearts gone cold and hands were tied.
Why'd you have to go and let it die?
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

Do you ever think of me?
You're so considerate.
Did you ever think of me?
Oh, so considerate.

In too deep and lost in time
Why'd you have to go and let it die?
Beautiful veins and bloodshot eyes
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

Hearts gone cold and hands were tied.
Why'd you have to go and let it die?

Why'd you have to go and let this die?
Why'd you have to go and let this die?
Why'd you have to go and let this die?
Why'd you have to go and let this die?

Why'd you have to go and let it die?

This is not about Kurt - it is about a personal relationship that dave had with a woman. He didn't think that she'd get tired of his games and that she would stay with him because after all he is the great dave grohl. But she didn't care about his fame or his money. And she ended up marrying a man who was a blue collar worker and didn't have much money (simple man) because he didn't play games with her like dave did. The "do you ever think about me" comes from a conversation she had with him when she said that she would always love with and still always thought about him but she believed she made the right decision. The song is angry because dave thought he had her in the bag because he was rich and famous, but she never cared about that.

I agree with skater13sean, the song seems to be about Kurt and Dave's relationship.
When Dave joined Nirvana in 1991, I didn't think he expected the band to get as popular as it got before Kurt's death in '94. Kurt got "in too deep and lost in time" with the music. He then resorted to drugs, can explain "beautiful veins and blood shot eyes." Of course there is the reference to Courtney Love and Kurt's relationship. "Simple Man and his blushing bride," I guess this could be related to the thought of Courntey's and Kurt's love was on the downslope. His "heart of gold" can refer to Kurt's uncanny ability for composing and then letting it go and not care anymore.
The "let it die" and "do you ever think of me?" lyrics is Kurt's not seeming to care about Dave (and Krist), while ending the band with his death.
These are only my thoughts, still a great song from one of the best!

Wow, nocemisions. You got a point there. I've been a huge Foo Fighters ever since I first Big Me in Okinawa Japan. Before I even knew Dave Grohl was the front man. This album may be better than Colour and Shape. Still not quite as good as the debut. But all of these songs have a ton of emotion. I figured the song was about someone dyin of an od or something like that, but I barely think of Nirvana when it comes to the ff's anymore. I think Dave Grohl is probably one of most talented human beings in music. His emotion really comes out in this album. But now that you mentioned it, it's gotta be for Kurt.
