I'm One Step
From A Breakdown
Two Steps From
Being Safe
Just Try To
See This Through
I'm Three Steps
From This Nightmare
And Four Steps
From The Door
The Rest Is
Up To You

Pardon Me While I
Just Turn My Back
And Walk Away
Pardon Me If I
Can't Listen
To The Things
You Say
Pardon Me If I
Can't Fake It
While You Still Believe
Pardon Me

I'm One Step
From Forgiveness
And Two Steps
From My Grave
We're All Just
Passing Through
Three Steps
From Redemption
Four From The
Devil's Door
On A Path
That Leads To You

Pardon Me While I
Just Turn My Back
And Walk Away
Pardon Me If I
Can't Listen
To The Things
You Say
Pardon Me If I
Can't Fake This
While You Still Believe
Pardon Me

Pardon Me While I
Just Turn My Back
And Walk Away
Pardon Me If I
Can't Listen
To The Things
You Say
Pardon Me If I
Can't Fake It
While You Still Believe
Pardon Me

I'm Two Steps
From Salvation
But I'm Only
Taking One
Pardon Me

I believe it's a song about the fine line many of us walk between love and hate, sanity and insanity, life and death, heaven and hell, forgiveness and resentment. Bottom line though, i think he is referring to the end of a bad relationship. He pardons himself for turning his back and just walking away, but he can not take it anymore, can not listen to her anymore. Her faith (in whatever) and his lack thereof. I totally relate. Awesome song.

The man sings about feelings of hurt while asking for a pardon to deal with his pain. At the end of the song he admits surrender and forgiveness. What a great song!

This could be a fight he's having with his wife. The first verse says he's about to leave. The second verse is him reconsidering, but not fully over it. In the last part of the song he's saying he will come back, but is keeping his guard up... but she has to compromise as well.

Or it could be talking about salvation on a spiritual level. The first verse says he's not accepting a life of faith. The second verse is saying he might give it a try. The last verse says he's not ready. I know Aaron's not a spiritual person, probably atheist... So I bet the song is about a fight with a person instead of a deity.

This song is about the man having a fight with his girl and she's really mad at him so he doesn't want to hear what she's going to say to him
