When the moon fell in love with the sun
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
When the sun found the moon
She was drinking tea in a garden
Under the green umbrella trees
In the middle of summer
When the moon found the sun
He looked like he was barely hanging on
But her eyes saved his life
In the middle of summer
In the middle of summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer, summer, summer
All was golden when the day met the night [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/p/panic_at_the_disco/when_the_day_met_the_night.html ]
So he said, "Would it be all right
If we just sat and talked for a little while
If in exchange for your time
I give you this smile?"
So she said, "That's okay
As long as you can make a promise
Not to break my little heart
Or leave me all alone in the summer."
Well he was just hanging around
Then he fell in love
And he didn't know how
But he couldn't get out
Just hanging around
Then he fell in love
In the middle of summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer, summer, summer
When the moon, fell in love, with the sun
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
This song is important to me, personally, because my current boyfriend met during the summer. I've tried to give him the lyrics and get him to listen to the song, but he doesn't see it the way i do. The moon is the girl, and the sun is the guy. In the middle of the summer, they were both going through their normal daily activities in the garden, and they fell in love. "and they couldn't get out, but they didn't know how, they fell in love"
in the middle of summer. At one point, the moon says to the sun (the girl says to the boy)
"that's okay as long as you promise not to break my little heart or leave me all alone in the middle of summer". This brings up two underlying meanings (to me). 1, the moon's cycle is waxing (when it gets bigger, and more full) and waning (when it shrinks to the crescent). The moon (aka, the girl) implies she has been broken before, just like when she's waning (shrinking, or being broken)
2, if you notice, on many occasions in the late afternoon and early mornings during the summer and the winter, you can see the moon and the sun sharing the same sky. "and they fell in love... In the middle of summer... All was golden in the sky... All was golden when the day met the night".

Believe in the irony of the song. In the song it was described that the sun was the one barely hanging on (unless it's a misplaced modifier), and the moon was the one that saved the sun's life. It's ironic in the sense that the sun, usually portrayed as someone cheerful, is the one who was down in this situation. It also shows that even though a person looks and acts happy (the sun), deep down, that person may actually be suffering.
I love this song! Its the sweetest song ive ever heard and the metaphor is great! Im soo addicted to the song and panic! At the disco.
Ok well first off in the song i think the sun is the girl and the moon is the boy cuz when it says "when the sun found the moon she was drinking tea in the garden" which means when she found the moon she was drinking her tea so its the same way when they say "when the moon found the sun he looked like he was barely hanging on but her eyes (the suns rays) saved his life in the middle of summer" so thats who i think is the boy and girl. I do think it could be the other way around because of the way jsrfgirlywhirl explained it when she told about the moon waxing and waning. But it could also be that her heart has been broken because the moon is a guy and he's left so many times (when you cant see the moon) so she doesnt want him to leave her alone in the summer. Also he says he would give her this smile which could mean when he's in cresent shape.
The main meaning is that a girl falls in love with a boy and the boy falls in love with the girl but theyre not the kind that rush things so they talk for a while. So while theyre hanging out they fall even deeper in love and thats it.
L. O.v. E. That's what it's about. It's possibly one the the sweetest songs i've ever heard in my entire life. The sun and moon symbolizing the girl and boy are a great way of portraying an almost like romeo and juliet type relationship. Not so much in the way of the families being rivals and what not but more like they're not supposed to fall in love with each other. Because they're opposites, the sun and moon and only meet at certain points. Like falling in love with someone who only goes to your... World known camp but lives in a different part of the world( i totally just made that up).
This song is very deep using the sun and the moon as a metaphor for a love between a guy and a girl. It was kind of like the moon (guy) and the sun (girl) were awaiting that one point in the day where they could both be together in the sky. And then in the middle of summer their love was powerful enough to go through the time where the sun(girl) was by herself longer because in the middle of summer days grow longer while nights grow shorter. Then the moon(guy) would be thinking of the suns(girls) "eyes" (light coming from the sun) in the sky which they both sharded together. While the sun (girl) would be awaiting when they could meet again.
Well, i think too the song is about a boy and a girl. And i think it's just lovely, especially when she says:
"that's okay
as long as you can make a promise
not to break my little heart
or leave me all alone in the summer". I think she's scared about that story, 'cause he could leave her when summer's end, like many boys do when they met a girl in summer. Just lovely, and with a happy ending too... (it doesn't happen really often).
