I can finally see,
That you're right there beside me,
I am not my own,
For I have been made new
Please don't let me go,
I desperately need you

I am not my own,
For I have been made new
Please don't let me go,
I desperately need you

I don't know; but I think this is really relevant to new believers. I feel as if the lyrics 'i am not my own, for I have been made new', is just right after you got saved. You are not of this world anymore, you do not live life for yourself anymore, but you live for him. You are his beautiful child. You are dead, but christ is alive in you. (oh what a beautiful thought!) as for the first two, 'i can finally see, that you're right there beside me', is also around the time when god has opened your eyes and your heart and you receive him, and you know that he has never left you all this time.
'please don't let me go, I desperately need you', is something I feel very often as a christian and no doubt, other believers. We want to cling to god because of the oppression of this world, and we do need him more than anything.
Really, this is just what I think, seeing as adam young is also a christian. I believe this can also be about your lover or whatever, but imho it's a smaller chance of that being true.
(and no, christians are not religious. Thanks.)

I think this song is religous. I didn't to start with, but I thought about it for a while. He is a religous guy, so am I and I can see the point of veiw. But each person to their own ideas of what it represents. I think the "i have been made new" bit sounds like it relates to his christianity. Overall a beautiful song, even though it's short. The music is just simply amazing. He voice is so sweet, and I am a hugh fan! Thanks for the sounds of brilliance adam! :)

He confirmed it himself that it's for god. However, music should be interpreted based on how it makes you feel or what it makes you think about, not just on what the creator was focusing on. I'm guessing that's why he didn't specifically mention god or jesus in the lyrics. He left it open to interpretation. It's a beautiful song; whether you're thinking about the love of god or your love for someone.

What is with all the insistence about "god"? I'm an atheist, and I would write these lyrics. It seems every time I see a song that could possibly be about god at all, and even sometimes when it's clearly not, someone has to rant about jesus. I am a different person with the love of my life. Without him, I feel like I have no meaning. This seems appropriate.
I'm not saying he could not have meant something god-related, but considering the rest of his music, and the line "please don't let me go; i desperately need you," it seems a lot more like he's writing about either a lover who might leave him or a close friend or lover who is dying. I'm not accustomed to people begging jesus not to leave them.

I think adam meant it to mean about god but to me it sounds like he's talking to one that he loves. My interpretation is probably way wrong but I like to think of it that way. A very powerful song and I love it, though it is terribly short. This song gets me, right deep down. Emotions I didn't know I was capable of came to me when I heard this for the first time.
Although, it's very inappropriately named for the words 'meteor shower' never show up in the song lol.
