Owl City – Galaxies lyrics
Call back the cap-com,
Tick off the time-bomb,
Let felicity fly!
Armour the airlock,
Blanket the bedrock,
And kiss the planet goodbye!

Dear God, I was terribly lost,
When the galaxies crossed,
And the Sun went dark.
Dear God, You're the only North Star,
I would follow this far.

Fight back the flight deck,
Bring on the breakneck,
Cue the solar eclipse!
Summit the sunset,
Dubtail the dragnet,
And blow your backbone to bits!

Dear God, I was terribly lost,
When the galaxies crossed,
And the Sun went dark.
Dear God, You're the only North Star,
I would follow this far.

Oh telescope, keep an eye on my only hope,
Lest I blink and be swept off the narrow road.
Hercules, you've got nothing to say to me,
'Cause you're not the blinding light that I need.

For He is the saving grace of the Galaxies!
He is the saving grace of the Galaxies

Dear God, I was terribly lost,
When the galaxies crossed,
And the Sun went dark.
(Went dark)
Dear God, You're the only North Star,
I would follow this far.

I would follow this far.
(Galaxies, galaxies, through the galaxies, through the galaxies)

Its actually about the 1986 challenger disaster, when they went up and 73 seconds later, to the shock of america, it blew up. I know this cause I'm doing a project on this. Its really sad. Alligator sky is also about the challenger disaster. Very sad! I'm also including lyrics from both songs. This wouldnt have happened is nasa had listened to the engineers working on the challenger. Its the o-rings fault!

I believe this song is a christian song about how brilliant god is and how jesus is his galaxy.
But there could be another meaning to this. The song could be refering to the nasa disaster, about how the astronauts felt in their very last moments of life.
"dear god, i was terrible lost when the galaxies crossed and the sun went dark. "
Such a brilliant song, means the world to me. Adam has such a beautiful voice. I love him.

This song is certainly about the Challenger tragedy, and it's definitely from a Christian point of view. It portrays the astronauts who sailed into the sky on that fateful day. Thought they were never seen again on earth, they could have been welcomed into Heaven shortly after, or as President Reagan said afterwards, "touched the face of God".

This seems like a song about a struggle to keep your focus on god. The galaxies seem to different distractions in life. When we go after those worldy things instead of god, it is like the galaxies crossing in front of the sun and blocking it out. In the same way when we focus on worldy things and get distracted, we lose our focus on god. The telescope must be constantly focused on the sun to avoid losing it. We must stay focused on god to avoid losing sight of his plan and turning off the narrow road that we are supposed to stay on if we are true followers of christ. Good song.

    Great song
nd beyond, like his head is in the clouds and he's singing down to earth what it's like. What he's singing, what I hear, are dreams and happiness and these songs are just sharing it all. The others are about love. Yeah, adam we all know you are lovey-dubbey with some cute chic. Translation to people with no emotions and/or no imagination: a bunch of mushy crap that really gets a point across while sounding incredibly awesome.

Most of his songs (same peep who jus wrote a comment I'm kura btw) are above and beyond, like his head is in the clouds and he's singing down to earth what it's like. Galaxies means that you are not afraid of going out and finding something new and exiciting. And if you get lost you are not panicing, but yet you enjoy the detour. And know that your home is god, not the earth. You are glad to leave the stressful life of the earth. I can see myself drifting through the dark of space, then suddenly seeing the right planet. Even more beautiful that earth. And if I do find just the planet, I would name it, god. Because god is my center of my life and I would never want to forget that. Hopefully this has brought you to a new perspective. And we will one day be able to touch the galaxies.

As a mom of a twelve year old boy who just recently asked if he could purchase all things bright and beautiful, I'm ever so grateful for young artists who have the courage and wisdom to use their talent in a powerful, god gloryifying manner--thank you! And I'm equally grateful for the above comments--it's refreshing and hopeful to read all your feedback. Keep your heart, mind, and choices on the true north star! Great music, great talent!

This song is about christ but it was also a song made in reverence of the space shuttle challenger. It was by no means apocalyptic. On the cd all things bright and beautiful its prologue is ronald reagans speech after the challenger exploded. "as they slipped the surly bonds of earth, to touch the face of god. " powerful song. By the way if anyone downloaded this and not the prologue to the song that is why the song starts suddenly cuz it has a prologue and the music swells into the next track.

As our planet tears through the reaches of space and the galaxies fly apart, God is the one to follow.
I'm seeing some apocalyptic speculation here too, but this song asserts that God will guide us through even the death of our planet due to worldwide bombing. At least that's my interpretation of "time-bomb," "blanketed bedrock" (in ash), "flight deck" (aircraft carriers), and "backbone to bits." Funny how such a doomsday theme can be sung so cheerfully, and yet it fits the greater theme that God can guide us even through the destruction of our planet when we will all be flung out into space.
Also, there are at least two specific Christian allusions in the final verse. The "narrow road" is a metaphor used in the Bible for choosing to follow Jesus. The "blinding light" was the vision of Christ that Paul saw when he became a Christian.

This song is, to me, about following God and trusting that he will lead you down the right paths. He is the only thing in this whole galaxy(ha ha) that can make us happy. The song says, "Dear God, you're the only North Star, that I would follow this far." Adam is saying that God is the only one that he will ever follow, and that's a really good message.

I'm not really good at intrepting songs but was listening to this song, the words really got to me. Ithink this song is about following God and that there's nothing else in this world that will satisfy us. "for He is the saving grace of he glalaxies" kind of gives away that adam is saying that God is the saviour of the universe. Its really cool how owl city (or adam) uses his talent and fame to share his faith :)

I think it is actually about a man who was going into space and he was about to die, and God saved him.
"Dear God I was terribly lost when the galaxies crossed and the sun went dark".
"Dear God you're the only North star I would follow this far".
This also might be about the nasa landing and how the astronauts felt when they had their last thoughts and what they last saw.

Sounds like a song symbolizing freedom and happiness (references to flight and space, felicity), with someone/something very important from the singer's perspective (likely a deity, god) being portrayed as a star, more specifically the north star. The north star was and is extremely important to navigation, as it can be used in finding north and determining latitude. With this in mind, the singer is saying, in essence, that the person portrayed by the north star is what's guiding him; is what he is following.
