How cruel is the golden rule?
When the lives we lived are only golden-plated
And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me
Though I carried karats for everyone to see
And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all of the mothers raise their babies
To stay away from me
Tongues on the sockets of electric dreams
Where the sewage of youth drowned the spark of my teens
And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me (too heavy for me)
Though I carried karats for everyone to see (everyone to see)
And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all of the mothers raise their babies
To stay away from me
It's not so much that no one likes them, it's just that people are calling them sellouts.
Frankly, they are sellouts.
They're going against everything they've ever stood for. Their music isn't as good. They've changed. For the worse.
its about an outsider/outcast that tries to get back into society but can't handle it because no one cares about them and everyone avoids them and raises their children to stay away from people like them and not to become like them either.
this song goes REALLY deep. I am a devoted Fall Out Boy fan and pete is my hollywood crush(even though Pete is married to a sucky singer) I don't hate Ashley Simpson I just dislike her a-lot!!! so anyway... golden is very deep because it talks about the outsider. The exciled one, the nobody. in my case Fall Out Boy.(nobody likes them anymore apperantly!)
