They were sitting
They were sitting
In the strawberry swing
Every moment was so precious

They were sitting
They were talking
In the strawberry swing
Everybody was for fighting
Wouldn't wanna waste a thing

Cold, cold water
Bring me round
Now my feet
Won't touch the ground
Cold, cold water
What ya say?
It's such
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

I remember
We were walking up
To strawberry swing
I can't wait 'til the morning
Wouldn't wanna change a thing

People leaving all the time
Inside
A perfectly straight line
Don't you wanna curve away
It's such
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

Now the sky could be blue
I don't mind
Without you
It's a waste of time

Could be blue
I don't mind
Without you
It's a waste of time

Could be blue
Could be grey
Without you
I'm just miles away

Could be blue
I don't mind
Without you
It's a waste of time

True love, he's reminiscing about the love he had with this person, she made him feel alive, the world was a better place with her in his life.. but now she's gone this world can no longer hold his interest. Strawberry swing is a place they would go to spend time together when the weather was good, it was a special place... but it would just be a 'waste of time' to visit it again without her there.
'miles away' means he's not in the present, he is so engrossed in his memories the weather has no effect on him, it could be sunny or raining; he doesn't 'mind' either way.. because in his mind, he's living the 'perfect day'. the 'cold water' refers to rain.

That's my take on it anyways.. the emotion in this song, the whole album is simply amazing!

    Notes on strawberry swing:

This song is about finding true love for the first time. Breaking down the lyrics, the two in the song are first just sitting in the strawberry swing, making a distinction of precious moments. In the next stanza, notice that they begin talking, describing the pleasant awkwardness that comes with youth as well as the innocence. The cold, cold water comes in and turns him around, noticing how everyone else is all for fighting and contention, while he is with someone he really loves, realizing how perfect the day is, and therefore, realizing happiness, seemingly, for the first time.

Next the two are walking up to the strawberry swing, together. He mentions how he can't wait until the morning comes, meaning that they likely arrived at night, something that happens to people later in life, when one is a teenager and in one's 20s, and they stayed there for hours, til morning, mentioning after how he "wouldn't change a thing".

He then describes his epiphany; he realizes that people follow or "move" inside this straight line; that they follow a certain order, a certain way of living. In order to find love, he had to take a chance, to "curve away" from his usual ways to find this true love, and asks everyone, "don't you want to curve away [too]? " describing, again, that it is such a perfect day.

The change in progression, when the acoustic guitar comes in, brings us to his present existence, where he is remembering the other as he looks into the sky, which is where the song really captivates you. The sky could be blue, he doesn't mind if it is or isn't because without "you", simply looking upon a perfect day without "you" is a waste of time.

That is seriously the most beautiful thing i have ever heard.

Yes. I guess it depends. Most people think this is an upbeat song, which parts of it may be, but to me there is a deep, deep sadness to the song. Hence the repetition of the without you stanzas. And all the "happy" parts start out in the past tense, then become present tense as he slips into the memory of what used to be. I guess your interpretation depends on your own situation and it can mean different things to different people.

how that they once sat at this beautiful place now things are going in different ways and sometimes the day can be wasted on old memories but he will be better. with or without you.

I was under the impression that chris martin wrote the song for gwyneth paltrow after the death of her father? To me it's about coming to terms with loss...
