I think this might have something to with trying to become used to civilian life again. War messes up your whole self and it can be hard to adjust to being home again.

This is about how he hears music everywhere. And Christine can hear the music that he creates from this. No one else could hear his music because no one wanted to hear because of his deformity. It's like no one, but a select few could understand him or give him sympathy. Madam Gery and Meg sympathize with him, but they aren't Christine.

For me, especially in the beginning, this song is about pushing your feelings away or deep inside you. For me wanting to swing from the chandelier is more about wanting to feel free of all the burden of holding in your emotions. Living like no matter what you say or do it's all going to be forgotten by tomorrow. "I'm holding on for dear life" to me is about holding on so tightly to keeping everything bottled up. "Gotta get up now gotta run from this" reminds me of how it feels to want to run away. "Help me" is just perfect. To me it's looking at where you are and begging for help to make it better. I've felt so trapped in my life and this song's lyrics make me feel like I just have to get away and start being myself.

In the movie Satine is working at a brothel, she's sick, she really has very little that keeps her going. She's saying that love is making her life and everything she's had to go through worth it. If she hadn't gone through all the things that make her feel like she'd waisted her life she never would have met the man that she loves more than anything.
