Love this song (think it might have been on cheasapeake shores too?) basically its about how he realised the ppl that loved him (maybe an old flame he left too) is still back at home and thats where his heart is and needs to get back to them sometimes we need to leave to know where we should be ......

loved this song as a teenager and adult didnt really get what it meant then but nowdays to me basically talking about (based on perception) its how the singer felt when On drugs (esp the lyrics When you are with me I'm free, I'm careless I believe Above all the others We'll fly" -- or the 2nd one could be about an old friend (literally) that he lost (they left) bc of his drug . depression issues .. and he catches up with them again years down the track maybe when hes cleaned himself up and sober / free from the depression and pain ?

I always thought it was about ppl that preach about being good christians and calling others sinners yet they (the christians) arent all angelic either ... (and no offence meant just my own opinion and Im not anti christian at all) esp this lyric explains alot "Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife" basically says they are happy to condemn others for not being christian but wont take their own advice

I always thought this song was about the guy wondering what would have happened had me married his childhood / teenage sweetheart .. it goes on to say he bumped Into her years later (after both broken up and moved on) and he realised she wasnt the same person and neither was he anymore and neither did they have much in common ... she couldnt even remember much from those years together ... hence the verse ... "as she walked away I looked at my wife and in there I thank the good lord for the gifts in my life .. " meaning he knew they werent meant to be the ex and him and hes glad that they didnt work out -- and the song resonates with all of us basically telling us well it sucks when ya dont work out / break up but theres always a reason for it even when ya cant see it at the time (and goes for love life / life or career too) theres always a reason things happen even if ya not religious -- trust ya gut theres a reason why it doesnt!

i always thought it was about a boy who said he would always stay but he decided to leave .. (and not always in a suicide or drug way or reason) and she always thought they would be together (and he prob promised) hence the lyrics if someone said 3 yrs from now you would be gone Id stand up and punch them out (basically yeah thats not gonna happen) ....... could be interpreted for many reasons why he left -- drugs .. suicide or maybe he just decided to up and walk out for some reason ?

I always thought it was a song about telling ppl that the person (and can go for anyone) are sick of being / playing Ms nice girl (and basically the sort that just goes along with whatever ppl say to "keep the peace") and they just get used and hurt ... Not ready to make nice is about basically standing up for what YOU believe in and telling ppl "No I dont agree with that and heres why" regardless if it hurts someones feelings -- I made my bed and I sleep like a baby With no regrets and I don' t mind sayin' -- self explanatory basically tells ppl Im over it and Fk Your feelings now) It' s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger (tells about how ppl project their hate/ racism or Biased views for someone or race onto unsuspecting kids)

Love this song reminds me of all our teenagehood' where we thought we were invincible and no worries about anything or like Bob says "paying for things or what to leave in and what to leave out" (morgage / rent/ Bill money etc) the Innocence Of Youth and thinking we were "the Bomb and untouchable and could say or do anything" (most times wasnt true how we felt haha)

@Freakylilpixie no its not about rape .. its a song talking about (to them) george bush but it also is about talking about for the rest of us sometimes we have to not just accept what ppl say "ready to make nice" just for the sake of playing nice or being nice to someone .. also that quote ""It's sad sad story when a mother will teach her daughter she ought to hate a perfect stranger." is not about rape its about a Mother teaching her daughter to hate someone she doesnt even know / or even met ... sometimes as a racist thing .......kinda like what Gretas parents are doing maybe ?

Always thought it was a great song about all the times you think (in life) why does this happen the hell to me? :( Things happen and ya don't know why but basically its all part of the life plan even if we aren't always able to see it at the time.

I always thought it was about how you realise life isnt easy and ppl will hurt you or lead you astray or wrong but there is good in Life too and sometimes the bad things can lead to a path that ya meant to be on .. as mistakes are a part of life :) and thats how we learn ......."Every long lost dream led me to where you are Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars Pointing me on my way into your loving arms This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you"-- sums it up really ...... basically said life isnt easy but its worth the risk :)

To me (and I could be wrong) but its basically saying if we tolerate things and what people say (and just accept it) then we will basically fall into a pattern of compliance and nobody would ever challenge authority and the govt or each other (basically like doormats) like theold saying It is easier to fall for anything than to stand for something.

Looking back on his life and realising that no matter what he was taught - most things usually end immoral and sometimes illegal. But then realising that while you have "shame" on somethings its just life. Nobody lives the life of a saint. And just value what you have. Even if somethings are a "sin" (as long as they arent illegal or murder or hurt anyone else - just live it and enjoy it).
