This song is about Shane dying in a car accident on Christmas and his girlfriend being depressed about it. After his death he hates Christmas and everything about it. Through it all, though, he still wishes and believes that it will get better. He writes a letter to Santa, and his wish is granted. He gets to spend one last night with his girlfriend.
(It may sound a little far out, but it all becomes very clear if you watch the music video for this song.)
