What a great song about masturbation. I don't think the lyrics could be any clearer. I would have stopped right here but I have to type at least fifty words for this to be considered a post, so I'll just keep on typing until I see the go ahead to post.

I think that he is just talking about two parts of himself. His ID is broken into two distinct parts, Love and Hate. He pities himself for not being able to stop hating. The hating side of him knows that he has glimpsed love but couldn't allow it to take over and fill his life with light. I don't think that anyone else will ever know the meaning of this song, unless Corey Taylor lets us know. There are glimpses of duality in the video where he is the dark part and she is the light, but then at the end, she is him. The other people in the video notice the change and are taken aback. These lyrics are very heartfelt and can mean so many different things according to your own experiences. There likely is no wrong interpretation. I do have another theory that he is actually singing to 2 different people involved in this song, but I haven't taken the time to try to break the parts apart. The bottom line is that this song is epic. It should last for all eternity; it is just that good.

What a gut punch this must have been if it really happened. Being all hyped up at a football game with your girl and then BAM! I don't think that the meaning of this song is hidden in any way, it is just a damned tearjerker. You've written a killer song, Reece D. Wilson. If this is about you, then you have my condolences.

This was written about the divorce that Stephen Stills was going through. The majority of the lyrics, if not all, are literal and not figurative. It is simply a song about how his trip helped his get through this hard time in his life. While it deals with his raw emotions, the harmonies are fantastic and that is why this song was a hit. Many people love a good tear jerker and almost everyone loves good music.
