Steven Curtis Chapman – Run Away lyrics

Strolling past temptation avenue,
You hear so meny voices calling you;
Maybe you'll step in and take a quick look around.
Try to walk through it,
And you're gonna fall down.

You've gotta run away,
Turn around and run the other way;
Don't even look in the direction
Of a thought you should not entertain.
You've gotta run away,
It's a prison that is calling your name;
You just can't win if you play,
So run away.

There comes a time when you must stand and fight,
When the darkness tries to evercome the light;
But sin that is dressed up in the color of gray,
Is only defeated
When we run away.

Don't put yourself in that position
Where sin can make it's proposition;
And if you find that you have fallen,
You gotta get up, get ready to run
Next time sin comes calling, calling.

    Everybody in the world has their own "Temptation Avenue". For some, it's an addiction, for others, sex, others, food, and the list goes on and on. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 21:2, "Flee from sin as from the face of a serpent: for if thou comest too near it, it will bite thee: the teeth thereof are as the teeth of a lion, slaying the souls of men."

    Why would you even want to get close to something you know will hurt you? In a way, that's a stupid question, but seriously, if you know something's bad for you, why do you keep coming back. The answer: because you're a human. More specifically, you're probably one of the most messed-up, fallen human beings you personally know. Even with a cool song like this to spur you on, you just aren't able to deal with your pitfalls. On your own.

    Many people live with a misconception of God, that He's some person in the corner of your mind who jumps up and down anytime you misstep. That's wrong. That person in your mind is: you. God is the person who saw you setting goals for yourself that you could never keep, and He decided to do something about it. So He sent His Son to die for you so that He could enter your heart and offer you a fresh start; not so you could suddenly be perfect and not have to kick yourself anymore, but so you could fail all the time and not have to kick yourself anymore.

    That's not to say your problems don't have to be dealt with. Your issues have consequences you want to avoid if you can. But it's useless making fruitless resolutions and thinking you can solve your problems in your own strength. Another upside of letting Jesus Christ, God's Son, take up residence in your heart is that He can lend you His power, if you'll ask him for it. And knowing that God sees you trying, and wants you to succeed, but will offer you forgiveness if you fail, is a much better motivation for being a better person than replacing the God of grace with a perfectionist who screams out your every failure and never lets you live at peace with your past.

    Whew, that was a long meaning. Hope this helps :)
