Silvermane Wesleyjohn – Weekend Warrior lyrics
Intro 8 bars
V1
Well crack of dawn i’m workin’ 5 to nine
Jugglin’ time to buy my gear.
My bills keep pilin’ up like leaves in my yard,
And they repo’d my truck last year
The power’s cut off but I don’t give a damn,
Since I heat with my overdues
Cause as long as I can stand on that open stage,
You won’t hear me cryin’ the blues

Repeat intro 8 bars

V2
Well out in that shed behind my trailer home
Sits a shrine to my rockin’ past
And in that magic bus folk treasures unfold
But i’ll show you if you’ll ask
But if you stop come in have a beer or three
We’ll be partyin’ up all night
Jammin’ and a singin’ and playin’ guitars
Gettin’ ready for open mic

Chorus
Cuz I live for open mic; when the band brings me up on stage
I live for sunday night;
When the band is a groovin’ and i’m playin’ and singin’
The crowd is roarin’ and my solo’s ringin’
Nothin’ can compare to the joy that it’s bringin’
I’m a weekend warrior

Bridge to intro and verse one
To chorus (repeat)

I’m a weekend warrior

I do because I wrote it.
I went back to Community College all full of hopes and dreams and wanted to start recording so I took a course in Songwriting. My teacher did inspire me, and, just before I got a heart attack and had to quit school (I was in my 60's), I wrote and composed Weekend Warrior to show the younger generation just what can happen after the gold rush and the crowd is no longer interested in listening and what used to be only comes out on Sundays at the Open Mic night, longing to feel the electric energy when you let loose on that solo or vocal crescendo. Never forget, we all get there-old - someday!

The guy written about is old now, and he strives to belong to a young world his generation handed the reins to. Now he only wants to fit in on Sundays when he sings and plays his nostalgic music at the local bar when they let him get up to play. I know, because he is me and other pros and semi-pros who have had success in music then been cast aside to what we used to call the bargain bin of Sam The Record Man. When rock is your life it's hard to be silenced.
