Robert Pattinson – Let Me Sign lyrics
She was standing there by the broken tree
Her hands were all twisted she was pointing at me
I was damned by the light coming out of her eyes
She spoke with a voice that disrupted the sky
She said walk on over into bitter shade,
I will wrap you in my arms and you'll know you've been saved'
Let me sign, let me sign, can't fight the devil so just let me sign.

I was out for a drink in a soho bar
The air was smoked out liked a cheap cigar
She rose out of her seat like a painted ghost
She was the woman that I wanted the most
As she reached for my arm I gave her my hand
I said 'Lay me down easy let me understand'
Let me sign, let sign, can't fight the devil so just let me sign.

As I walked through the door she was still in my head
As I entered the room she was laid there in bed
She reached out for me all twisted in black
I was on my way down, never coming back
Let me sign, let me sign, can't fight the devil so just let me sign.
Let me sign, let me sign
, can't fight the devil so just let me sign.

Ok since the song was written before Twlight, this is my interpretation of what this song means. At first he's talking about how he was broken and in a bad place in he's life. Then met this woman, whose persona was a natural beauty (awe). She saved him and brought him life again but his fighting the feeling (hints: "let me sign, let me sign, can't fight the devil so let me sign" I thinks is more of a physical sign, rather then like signing a contract). Second part he's realized that he's fallen for her "lay me down easy let me understand" is he's way of inviting her in to he's world but he wants to know her intensions. The last part well I think is simple he's describing an intimate night they shared. All "twisted in black" is talking about her in bed covered in black sheets and "on the way down, never coming back" is talking about how he doesn't want to ever leave her or that moment. Well whatever your interpretation is the song is very deep.

Actually Robert himself has said that the song is about a prostitute that he falls for and even though he knows it's wrong to love her he can't seem to part from her so when he mentions that he can't fight the devil and says to let me sign he is referring to signing his soul over to the devil to be with the prostitute because in his mind being with a prostitute is wrong but he doesn't care because she has stoned him to his soul and his love for her has damned him in a way. I listened in an interview Rob talk about the lyrics and their meaning so that's the meaning of the song that was written by his friends and the director Catherin found it appropriate for the first movie;)
But even though that is the meaning behind the lyrics for the marcus and bobby, who wrote the song, I think you can still find your own personal meaning to it. That's how we connect with music anyhow.
And I figured you all should know the truth behind the lyrics if you were curious:)

I wasn't sure when I first heard this song what it meant to me in my life, as I listened it gave me goose bumps from the very first time I heard it. The funny part about it was I didn't know 4 sure rob was the one singing and playing this song that had touched me so deeply. It was in my bones I just felt it and then I looked on my computer if there were any lyrics. I just want to say I think that this man is most talented he leaves me in awe when I hear his piano and vocals I would love to see him play live. I'm forever a faithful loving fan, He is truly my favorite in all that he does. Love Sunshine:)

Giving in to this woman's love seems to mean to him that is damning himself (if that's even a word). Faust signed his soul to the devil, so perhaps 'let me sign, let me sign, can't fight the devil so just let me sign" means that he is willing to "sign" his soul over willingly for her. Like Edward with Bella, he is tired of staying away from this woman, so he is going to hell but enjoying it.

There words look so little on the screen and yet they have so much meaning
he is talking from the heart saying, all I want to do I love you, I don't want you to get hurt, he will be there to guide people through there paths, he wanted her the most, and yet she wanted him more, his love for her is so strong that not even the deathly winds could break the bonds, when he catches a glimpse of her his day is complete, and he feels like they are the only two people in the room together, they will always be in love, always.

I am a mother of an 18 year old girl. Of course I was skeptical when my daughter, a fan of the books, wanted me to watch the movie. But, as a cool mom, I sat down to watch. I was intrigued by the movie, the love, the connection. When Edward had to suck the blood to save Bella, I heard the this song. When I watched the movie again. I got chills by this voice. Must be some no name blues guy. So I looked it up. Robert Pattinson? What?
This song to me is wanting to connect so much with another soul. He just gave in.

I am in love with this song. It really doesn't matter who sings it, or who wrote it. It is incredible. Rob has such an amazing voice. He doesn't even look like he would be able to sing the way he does. It is truly remarkable. There is a rough quality to his voice that just makes him irresistible. I love this song so much, it is hard to find words to describe it. I'm just completely in awe.

~All I can say is he has the most amazing voice that could put you in a tranz and make you feel something that no other music or voice could. Its Poetry with so much emotion. And his voice absolutely sooths me in a way that I can't explain. I love all kinds of music but can't say that any other music or voice has made me feel so much~.

There is so much emotion in his voice as he is singing this song. I was very touched by it.
It's a very painful song. Extremely emotional. Desperate love.
I thought it was perfect for the moment in the movie as Bella was on the brink of death. Her fragile life in the hands of the vampire she loves desperately. It was Edward's involvement in her life that brought her to that moment. It was also his involvement and love who would bring her out of it. He was feeling all of those emotions that I mentioned above.
I personally love the song. I would love to hear more of Rob's musical ability in New Moon.

I think that he finds this amazing one of a kind woman falls madly in love with her but she is unavailable to him for some reason. Then when she is laying in bed all twisted in black I think she dies and he chooses to die with her. The song was written and performed before twilight for all of you who insist it was about edward and bella. I also think the sign part is about letting go of whatever it is that stopes him from being with her. He's willing to sign away his life to be with the one he loves. Such a beautiful heart wrenching love song. He could sing to me any time. I love his voice.

Alright here goes a long one with probably a ton of errors. Oh well so the first part makes me think that he was confused and torn after some kind of mishap in his life (broken tree) but one person, a woman, imagine that, is kind of like an unexpected saving grace. She tangles herself in to his problems in order to help him through the pain but what she sees disturbs (aka "damns" him) bc it is the truth. Her voice a's well tells him things he does not want to hear. So she offers him to join her to grieve. She wraps him in her arms and protects him soothing him like a child. The second stanza he obviously is still down and is going to drink his sorrows away so when he sees the same woman and realizes that she is the only one who can help her through. This tome around when she goes for an embrace he accepts (gave her my hand). Now the last one could be taken that they had a very intimate moment, or I see it a's he couldn't stop ruining about her and when he saw her next she was the one who needed saving/comforting so he decided to go with her to this point in her life knowing that he would never be the same again. But that is ok because he loves her. Lastly: (i know, woohoo!) the let me sign part that repeats, similar to a chorus is very tricky and can be perceived in many ways. Here is one of mine: he (first two stanzas) or she (last stanza) is not necessarily signing their souls away but more letting someone else take control of them so that they may get closer and become better. No use fighting the devil bc they know thy are mabe not strong enough to do so on their own. Again you can interpet this many different ways, and I even bought if this, but the woman could even be considered an angel maybe? Oh well, hope I helped! Robert pattin out!

Rob Pattison didn't write this song. Even though he sings it with great emotion and sings it sooo good. Its not his song. Bobby Long wrote this song with Marcos Foster so the credit for the lyrics should go to them not Rob. I just thought people should know that, so that all the credit doesn't go to just Rob. If ye like this song ye should check out Bobby Long's song, left to lie. Its very good with a very deep and powerful meaning.(to me anyway) its worth a look.

I love this song! Rob's a musical genius; unfortunately most people don't give him credit for this; mainly because he doesn't have your typical mainstream voice. Anything that he sings, he sings with passion and meaning. And I totally get it. This song is very beautiful and relatable for me. I love the strings. It just takes me away from all the B. S. Reality that most of us live in. I'm hooked! I would love to know where to find a full version of it.

I have to agree with 3f az on this one it is really a amazing song and it just happend to fit perfectly with twilight. He is talking about this beautiful woman that he is so very highly attracted to and she is slowly realing him in with her beauty and he can't try to stop because he loves her far too much so he says "i cant fight the devil so let me sign" and I don't like it when people say that people are never going to meet robert pattinson and just to let you know that I actually met him at a twilight book signing and he said I was cute. I even have his autograph. Ha!

Okay, I am going to say this for once, and it probably won't be the last time. Nobody has ever even met him yet they are convinced they will marry him?! Get real people. I'd be willing to bet that no one like him before he became Edward Cullen. (The movie sucked btw. The book was much better.) People are just in love with his character. You're not in love with him. You are in lust. Get over yourselves and get a life. To those of you who love him for his artistry (love as a fan, are not in love with him{wow}) thank you. We are the real fans in this world. We're the ones who are not going to go psycho and stalk him like the others are.
On a different note, He is a magnificent musician, and he deserves all the success in the world.

Changed, Challenged and Charged. This song with his rough deep voice, piecing lyrics and the incredible moving acoustic guitar is something my spirit has been searching for a very long time. It has finished a great healing in me, the end of a five year process; remembering an accident I survived, while my husband took his last breath in my arms. What I've lost - the devil took from me, but so blessed for what Jesus has reflected in my heart to share for generations to come. The prophesy of music.

His talent is amazing! I think the song is based on the metaphor that you sign your life away to devil when you do something or choose to do something that you know will get you in trouble, or inappropriate but you still do it because that is the right choice for you. Like making a pact with the devil and you make it official by signing or like saying "where do I sign?" when you are given an opportunity of a lifetime.

The song is a really good song but. If you must know. He didn't write this song. His friend did and he stole it. Research it. Youll find out. But it is a great song and he does have a great voice. Some people would say it heals them! And you wont ever find the long verson of the song becuz he didn't record it. He only recorded this song for twilight and that's it.
