Jerry Cantrell – Anger Rising lyrics
Alabama trailer park they call home
Boy standing at attention in the corner his own
Terrified, scorpion crawling the wall
By the way father could you please beat me some more?

Anger rising up inside him yet again
Tell me you got a plan
Deaf and blind I'm living with the lepers and
You want to hold my hand

Cold Alaska, hiding, bundled up tight
Stretch aluminum foil 'cross the window at night
Mother crying, calling out up the stairs
By the way father do you even care that I'm scared?

Anger rising up inside him yet again
Tell me you got a plan
Deaf and blind I'm living with the lepers and
You want to hold my hand

Devil rising up inside him yet again
Tell me you got a plan
Deaf and blind I'm living with the lepers and
You want to hold my hand

Generation three, solitary, alone
By the way father created hell on my own

Anger rising up inside him yet again
Tell me you got a plan
Deaf and blind I'm living with the lepers and
You want to hold my hand

This song is clearly about abuse. I know because I have had my share of it from a brother, who views me still yet as his fucking property, something to degrade and dehumanize whenever he gets the chance. I can relate to Jerry Cantrell's characters in this song. I don't know why, but my own mother continued to let the bully bastard in our house so he could mess with me some more. Then, he would lecture her and claim that she showed partiality between me and my little brother, which is absolutely untrue. I don't know why Mom continued to put up with my adult brother's shit. Maybe it is because she had to deal with her own cycle of fucking abuse. My aunt was a crude bitch, who treated her like shit as a kid and as an adult, and then, she married slugs. Every husband she had was a no good son of a bitch, and one was a skirt chasing pedophile. The other, my biological father, was a drunk and a fucking loser, and he treated my baby brother like he didn't mean a thing to him. So yes, I can relate entirely to this song, and I hope that, when I get married and my wife has our children, I am the best father in the world, and I will be more than just a father. I will be a dad. Dads spend quality time with their children, take them fishing, horse back riding, hunting, etc., and they help them with any difficult issues they may be facing. That's a dad. None of my mother's husbands, from the most recent to her other exes, were dads, but instead, fucking abusive cowards with no gumption what so ever.
