Idina Menzel – Let It Go lyrics
The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the Queen
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn't keep it in; Heaven knows I tried

Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know

Well now they know

Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back any more
Let it go, let it go

Turn away and slam the door
I don't care what they're going to say
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway

It's funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small

And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all

It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me,
I'm free
!

Let it go, let it go
I am one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You'll never see me cry
Here I stand
And here I'll stay

Let the storm rage on

My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around

And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I'm never going back, the past is in the past

Let it go, let it go
And I'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on

The cold never bothered me anyway

I was looking at the chord progression of this song, and going from that, I found it too repetitive (I know songs need a bit of repetition, but this repeated the same idea around 8 times). So it suggests that this song is only 'good' due to the fact that others use peer-pressure to get others to, and they give into peer-pressure due to the desire to be 'right', rather than the song's music. Later, I was discussing with a friend and we both agreed that had this music been written for a gcse level, it would have only gotten a D, possibly a low C. (I got asked to why 'i didn't like it', this is my reason).

If I weren't looking at the music itself, I would probably enjoy it, but now I've looked at the music, I can't change that belief.

In regards to the lyrics, they empower both young men and women that they are the future and that they have the right to make their own choices in their life. The fact that she's walking in the snow but there is no 'footprint to be seen' suggests that she doesn't want to remember where she came from and therefore does not look for the tracks. 'Let it go' could be talking about 'letting go' of the smaller mistakes in life, and looking to the future. For me, the line I like best is 'funny how some distance makes everything seem small' because it suggests to me that everyone looks at me from a distance, and doesn't really understand.

I like this song, and not because I'm just another one on the bandwagon. This song actually holds a deep meaning for me. A year ago, my life was torn apart. I was put in a situation where I was not allowed to feel, so that I became emotionally numb. I couldn't tell anyone what was going on, so I went to school every day with a smile on my face and pretended everything was fine. To this day, even my best friend doesn't know about it. When the chaos finally ended, I still struggled to feel anything. "Conceal, don't feel" was the way I had to live for so long. But when my emotions finally started to come back, I began to "let it go", learning how to be myself again, and putting the past behind me. It's been difficult, especially to leave this "kingdom of isolation", and feel close to people (I was a bit antisocial to begin with), but I'm slowly making progress. Wow, that got personal. I would apologize, but I don't care. Judge me all you want, because I love one popular song for a good reason. Let the storm rage on, the hate never bothered me anyway.

P.S. If you haven't heard NateWantsToBattle's rock cover of this song, you haven't lived. It's amazing.
