We establish goals and dreams at times in our life where we feel uplifted, powerful and motivated, this is the ‘promise’. Sometimes life can feel like it’s too much to handle, we try our best to stay strong for the reasons that matter.

the meaning to me is just that as the glue of a group or therapist friend you kinda throw away your rights to break down or to feel because you promised you wouldn't fall. The moment you do people start to realize that you are a human as well but people want to be helped not to have to help others most of the time. Others' pain can strike a line with us and cause the therapist's friend to "fall." When you are in this position you have your back up against a wall because you have nowhere to turn if you ever need help. This sounds like someone talking to their therapist friend and saying that they promised they wouldn't get hurt by the other persons problems.
