George Harrison – All Those Years Ago lyrics
I'm shouting all about love
While they treated you like a dog
When you were the one who had made it
So clear
All those years ago.

I'm talking all about how to give
They don't act with much honesty
But you point the way to the truth when you say
All you need is love.

Living with good and bad
I always look up to you
Now were left cold and sad
By someone the devils best friend
Someone who offended all
.

Were living in a bad dream
Theyve forgotten all about mankind
And you were the one they backed up to
The wall
All those years ago
You were the one who imagined it all
All those years ago.

Deep in the darkest night
I send out a prayer to you
Now in the world of light
Where the spirit free of the lies
And all else that we despised.

Theyve forgotten all about god
Hes the only reason we exist
Yet you were the one that they said was
So weird
All those years ago
You said it all though not many had ears
All those years ago
You had control of our smiles and our tears
All those years ago

This song was playing on the radio in my car while I was going to the hospital to be with my family because my aunt had just passed away from a massive heart attack that morning. This was in june of 1981. That morning, her husband (my uncle) called us after he called 911. My aunt & uncle lived across the street, so I rushed out and I saw the paramedics going in as I ran to the house. I thought to myself that she would be ok since help had arrived so quickly. Anyway, no need to go into more details except for the fact that every time I hear this song, it takes me right back to that moment while on the way to the hospital. I was numb from the news of her death. Anyway, I am a huge fan of george harrison. But I've been relieved that this song doesn't as get much play time as the other hits of the early 80's, and I know that this sounds pretty harsh to fellow george harrison fans, and fans of this song. I guess there are lots of reasons to not like a particular song from a favorite artist. I know that george was numb from the news of john's death.
So, this is the meaning of this otherwise great song to me. I know george referring to john in this song, but this song still reminds me of a horrible morning in june of '81.
