Carol Banawa – Tanging Yaman lyrics

One day I met the composer of Tanging Yaman and told him about a poem, August 3, my birthday. I had seen it in the Jesuit Arvisu House, in the compilation Treasury of Poetry published by Simon & Schuster. I told him I wanted to see it again, for I had looked at it for only a few seconds.

God inspired me by inspiring the composer to compose the music for Tanging Yaman years later. Yaman means Treasure. The literal meaning of di lubusang masumpungan is could not be completely found.

An associate and classmate of the composer is the first cousin of brothers in our neighbourhood who were our schoolmates. We are very far from that school. One of the brothers was a batchmate and I think classmate of theirs.

One day I was with the brothers and the associate in his home. Then all of us in the brothers' home.

He sang one of the two versions of Awit Paghahangad, both of which I love and are channels of God's peace for me.

The composer wrote the music for Hindi Kita Malilimutan. He was in the same first year high school classroom we had been a year before. It was there that their class, led by their educator, wrote the words, inspired by the Word of God, as told for example in a website quoting the New Jerusalem Bible.

God inspired me by telling me I will never forget you, the meaning of Hindi Kita Malilimutan.

I got my copy of the Jerusalem Bible when I was in first year high school. It was with the Jerusalem Bible that I first loved the Word of God. I found it in our home when we went back to it. It said not to be sold in our country. It had the name of someone who I would soon find was in the freedom movement. He had lived in the house we came back from.

It was my first time to know about the Jerusalem Bible and had never seen it anywhere else. I brought it to our class and was used in our year-ender Holy Mass.
