Bob Moses – Heaven Only Knows lyrics
[Verse 1]
Sacrifice all your life
Heads hang heavy when there's blood on the line
It's justified, don't ask why
'Cause heaven only knows

Paradise on the other side
Won't you suffer for the angels to fly?
Paralyzed, don't you cry
'Cause heaven only knows

[Verse 2]
Sacrifice, don't think twice
Wear your faith as you roll in the skies
It's justified, don't ask why
'Cause heaven only knows

[Chorus]
Heaven only knows
Heaven only knows
Heaven only knows

[Verse 3]
Paralyzed on your life
Won't you suffer for the angels to fly?
Sacrifice to make it right
'Cause heaven only knows

[Chorus]
Paralyzed (heaven only knows)
Sacrifice (heaven only knows)
Paradise (heaven only knows)
Far from a piece of mind

Paralyzed (heaven only knows)
Sacrifice (heaven only knows)
Paradise (heaven only knows)
Far from a piece of mind

Heaven only knows
Heaven only knows
Heaven only knows

To me this song sounds like the life in the field of intelligence, where thousands are recruited into a life of secrecy and service under the promise that the “sacrifice” they make is a justified evil that will save the lives of many. The individuals are taught not to question orders, lose all attachment to comfort, and take on the mindset that the Job is their life (because it is). Due to the nature of the job, these agents often have to sacrifice their core beliefs, and usually lose relationships and any social life outside of work. This especially resonates to me in the line
    “Sacrifice all your life
Heads hang heavy when there's blood on the line
    It's justified, don't ask why”
Disclaimer: My intention in writing this is not to discourage others from the life (if you are interested - by all means, apply, but keep in mind it’s not for everyone) but to share what my personal view of this song is.

It sounds to me, like someone already paralyzed from past and present traumas. Being asked to sacrifice themselves, to there victimizer there life. So they can get there needs met. It seems like the paralizing they have already done is not working or not enough. So they are publicly asking that one to sacrifice themselves for the others to fly or get what they need

In a religious aspect or sense I feel like I understand it's meaning. Like from the beginning when it says " sacrifice all your life" talks about God sending his son Jesus into the world and all throughout his lifetime he dedicated his entire life serving God and fulfilling the prophecies and doing what God sent him down to do. The next line that says "head's hanging heavy when there's blood on the line" talks about the pressure that he faced when Jesus realized that the time has approached for him to lay his life down and to die in order to save sinners. As he prayed in Gethsemane when he took both Peter and the two sons of Zebedee. It's available in Matthew chapter 26 from verse 37 to 40. "It's justified don't ask why" seemingly proves it being the right thing to do for Jesus to sacrifice his life and die on the cross. Then the other lines are all about Jesus on the cross knowing and promising the other thief that was crucified alongside with him whom repented for his sin that he'll be with him in paradise (Heaven). Jesus also performing miracles during his life time as he made the lame walk. If you read John chapter 5 verse 8 you'll see it there.

Second verse in summary to me mostly talks about Jesus not hesitating to dying on the cross in order to save sinners. Having faith in his father, him resurrecting from death and came back to life and also ascended into Heaven or going up to Heaven. And he coming back on the day of judgement in his glory.

Verse three is like the temptation of Satan tempting Jesus during the beginning of his journey when he was fasting in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights. After the devil even asked him to prove himself if he was the son of God for him to jump of a cliff and if he was angels will fly down and rescue him that his feet would not even touch the ground. But of course Jesus won that temptation as well by simply quoting the scripture "Do not put thy lord thy God into the test."

This is the what I feel it represents or means. Hope you found some meaning into this. Bye for now.
