It's like the room just cleared of smoke
I didn't even want the heart you broke
It's yours to keep
You just might need one

I finally found my real name
I won't be me when you see me again
No, I won't be my father's son

[Chorus]
I'm more than you know
I'm more than you see here
More than you let me be
I'm more than you know
A body in a soul
You don't see me but you will
I am not invisible

(That's right
I'll be in the invisible world)

I don't dream, not as such
I don't even think about you that much
Unless I start to think at all

All those frozen days
And your frozen ways
They melt away your face like snow

[Chorus]
I'm more than you know
I'm more than you see here
I'm more than you let me be
I'm more than you know
A body in a soul
You don't see me but you will
I am not invisible
I am here

[Outro]
There is no them
There is no them
There's only us
There's only us
There is no them
There is no them
There's only us
There's only us
There is no them
There is no them
There's only you
And there's only me
There is no them

It's about growing up invisible, to his dad. His dad past. Next time he see's him will be in heaven. So his father on earth won't be his father in heaven. (Bono in interviews said he believes in heaven when questioned) but like most of U2 lyrics they have many levels of meaning.

I think it's about when the band started out, back in the early '80's. Bono says he remembers the long train ride to London, away from home. When he finally got there, he was amazed at all the different kinds of people, and it was very different than Ireland. But, they ignored him. This is where most of the song comes from. They treated him like he was invisible, like he wasn't even there. The whole "you don't see me but you will" was Bono thinking that some day he'll be famous, then they'll see him. When he says "I don't dream etc." He's saying that he has less dreams of fame, less thoughts of fame, and less dreams of those days when he was "invisible". Amazing song, amazing story.

Great art is universal. Nothing becomes universal by only being about one situation. Think of all the times modern life tries to define us by roles or labels. Think of all the times we dismiss someone as weird, different, etc. We are so much more than any label can catch or any stranger can know.

He is telling his girl that he is more than what she thinks he is. The relationship has more to it. Seems like the girl is ready to move on and he is telling her that there is no them but only her and him. By invisible world he means world of fantasy. And by saying he is not invisible he means he is still alive and their paths will cross.
