I was born
I was born to be with you
In this space and time
After that and ever after I haven't had a clue
Only to break rhyme
This foolishness can leave a heart black and blue
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/u/u2/magnificent.html ]
I was born
I was born to sing for you
I didn't have a choice but to lift you up
And sing whatever song you wanted me to
I give you back my voice
From the womb my first cry, it was a joyful noise...
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar
Justified till we die, you and I will magnify
The Magnificent
Magnificent
Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love unites our hearts
Justified till we die, you and I will magnify
The Magnificent
Magnificent
Magnificent

This is personal from bono, i was born, i hadnt got a clue, sing what you wanted me to sing, i did'nt have a voice,i give you back my voice, you and i will magnify hes telling us all who is responsible for bono--great tune, great lyrics
No gilligan. You dont get to corrupt this song with god and or religion. A love that doesnt demand reciprocation and threaten disobedience with eternal damnation.
Gilligan, you're pretty bang on. The title, according to bono, refers to the blessed virgin mary and her "magnificat" (luke 1:46-55). It honours her faith and devotion as it magnifies the lord, and calls us to the same devotion.
Can only mean one thing to me. Lifting up the magificent one, the one creator of love, the one who died for the world, giving up everything so we can spend forever, and forever with with the precious one, the lord god almighty who is knocking on our hardened hearts to be let in, and to reveal himself to us. I think thats what this song may mean, hope i'm right, but if not, then thats what it means to me everytime i hear this.
