The fire started long ago
The flames burn down still embers glow
So charred and black
There's nothing left to burn, to burn

We had the same dream
Lived life to the extreme
A loaded gun jammed by a rose

The thorns are not around your head
Your ego cut you till you bled
You cannot crucify the dead
To me you're dead, yeah

The future isn't set in stone
Decisions past leave you alone
Betrayed us all with your own selfish greed, your greed, yeah

New soldiers now stand
At your beck and command
Recruits they're bought and paid by you

The thorns are not around your head
Your ego cut till you bled
You cannot crucify the dead
To me you're dead, yeah

We were like brothers with the world in our hands
You always have too much to say
Some day you look back and you'll wonder why
You let it all slip away, yeah

SOLO

Crucify the dead
Crucify the dead

The thorns are not around your head
Your ego cut you till you bled
You cannot crucify the dead
To me you're dead, yeah

1.AXL rose and Slash will never ever get together again,EVER,it makes me very sad but it's true
2.all songs(well, most, but this one included) where written by slash,so this is not told from Ozzy's perspective
cuz Slash says that only current and former GNR members have the right to rant on AXL,and gets really pissed when some1 else does.
3.This is an absolutely beautiful song and it's freaking genious
and from the line "a loaded gun jammed by a rose" it's pretty clear it's about GNR

This isn't a message from slash to anyone. Ozzy wrote this song and its was what he would say to axl if he were in slash's position. Slash did not write the lyrics to this song!!!

I think it's slash's message to axl rose. Songwriting always seems to be slash's way of getting things off his chest.

Clearly, clearly a song directed to axl rose. One doesn't even need to think about it: it's obviously clear. Props to his highness slash for this song, and thank the god of heavy metal, mr. Ozzy osbourne, for singing it.
