Speak of the devil look who just walked into the room
The guilted and faded notion of someone I once knew
All the perfect moments are wrong
All the precious pieces are gone
Everything that mattered is just
A city of dust
Covering both of us

{chorus}
Did you hide yourself away
I can't see you any more
Did you eclipse another day
I used to wake up to the colour of your soul
Did you hide your self away
Are you living through the ghost
Did you finally find a place above the shadows
Of a world we'll never know
The world will never know you like I do

So many silent sorrows you'll never hear from again
And now that you lost tomorrow, is yesterday still a friend?
All the bridges that we built will burn
Not a single lesson was learned
Everything that mattered is just
A city of dust
Covering both of us

{chorus}
Did you hide yourself away
I can't see you any more
Did you eclipse another day
I used to wake up to the colour of your soul
Did you hide your self away
Are you living through the ghost
Did you finally find a place above the shadows
So the world will never know
The world will never know you like I do

Like I still do

Did you hide your self away
I can't see you any more
Did you eclipse another day
I used to wake up to the colour of your soul
Did you hide your self away
Are you living through the ghost
Did you finally find a place above the shadows
Of a world we'll never know
The world will never know you

In my opinion it relates mostly to addicts.
'guilted & faded', addicts often feel a sense of guilt for their habits and can become faded both physically and mentally.
'perfect moments are wrong' because 'all the precious peices are gone', an addict can be present physically, but not really be there in a mental state, the part of a person that matters (the precious pieces) are not present for an addict even in the most perfect of moments. Their either of in their own world or thiking when they can get another fix.
'everything that mattered' as in everything that mattered about that person (the addict) doesn't anymore, it's gone, destroyed by the addiction simply 'a city of dust', this affects both the addict and friends/family - 'covering both of us'.
The whole chorus and name of the song captures perfectly the feelings of isolation experienced when on drugs. Addicts hide away in their own little world, not really feeling or touching the 'normal world' that 'normal people' experience. Addicts are literally 'living through the ghost', 'hiding away', eclipsing another day by being in their own little worlds, never letting the 'world know them'.
'lost tomorrow' because the drugs have a hold of an addicts future; the past and when an addict could actually feel joy is still 'yesterdays friend'.
It's just my opinion and ofcourse i could be wrong, but it's what living through the ghost means to me.

To me It's a love song I just lost my husband in February 2015 due to cancer, my love is gone and I can't feel him anymore, May 21st would have been our 20th wedding anniversary, we were so close to one another and knew each other inside and out, he was my soul mate. I will love him till the day I die. No one will know him like I do.

I think the meaning of this song is that someone's good friend that they use to talk to everyday, all of a sudden won't talk to anyone and stopped communication with everyone or someone made a poor choice and their friends quit talking to her/him besides one of his/hers bestfriends, one day her/him beat their selves up about it and quit talking to everyone then their bestfriend tried talking to him/her but yelled at the friend and said meant things then ran and hid away somewhere

It is the self image of many. We wake up and see ourselves for what we are. Mirrors are as much of a curse as a blessing. You don't even have to be depressed or self-deprecating. I have more self worth than so many that I know. But when you look into the mirror you instantly see everything. What has happened to you, what you have done, and what others think. And in that moment everyone is terrified. You want to run. You want to look away. But you don't if you're like me.

And that's what this song means to me. It is the recognition that in five minutes you won't be all alone and you will have to put on your mask again. It is the recognition that you have been broken so many times that you can't look away even though others seem to find it easy. It's the catch of breathe right before you carry on. Undoubtedly getting further battered and making even more mistakes.

No one in these explanations is wrong. The singer is talking about loss. Of a friend or a lover or a victim or whatever. But the victim is not outside. In this song, the victim is you. And it is why I love it.

I suppose with a brilliant song like this everyone is going to relate it to something in their lives. To me it fits in perfectly with a big dose of unrequited love for a colleague. We got on so well for 2 months, she was heaven sent, perfect. We did the same things growing up, same weird sense of humor BUT she's been with someone else for 2 years, gutted. I had to tell her how I felt, possibly ruining a future we'll never know. Now I feel I've kinda spoil t everything that's grown between us and burnt some bridges. Now tomorrow's gone is the time I've spent with her yesterday still a friend? Now I feel she's hiding from me a bit you never know, I'm gonna make my feelings clear though. There was a period when I couldn't listen to this song without crying, even now it can catch me by surprise.
