The sun is gone and the flowers rot
Words are spaces between us
And I should've been drown in the rivers I've found of token lost
And I should've been down when you made me insecure

So break me down if it makes you feel right (so break me down)
And hate me now if it keeps you alright(so break me down)
You can't break me down if it takes all your might
'Cause I'm so much more than meets the eye

And I'm the one you can never trust
'Cause wounds are ways to reveal us
And, yeah, I could have tried and devoted my life to both of us
But what a waste of my time when the world we had was yours

So break me down if it makes you feel right (so break me down)
And hate me now if it keeps you alright (so break me down)
You can't break me down if it takes all your might
'Cause I'm so much more than all your lies

Hate me, break me down
(So break me down, So break me down)
So break me down if it makes you feel right
And hate me now if it keeps you alright
You can't break me down if it takes all your might
'Cause I'm so much more than meets the eye

I agree with tampamanns, this song sounds like a comeback to Amy Lee of Evanescence's song "Call me when you're sober". I like the song. I also like the Evanescence song. It's too bad the breakup ended bitterly with both of them taking shots at each other in songs. There's always two sides to the story, so, I can't blame Shawn for putting his side out there.

I think that the meaning of " hate me if it makes you feel alright" is using the hate for him to fill the pain of a broken heart.. and in the end hes stronger, and how she takes him for granted " im so much more than meets the eye"

Yeah, this was definately written to show his side of the story. He's saying that no matter how hard you try to make him hate himself or how much you try to 'break him down' he's not going to yeild because he know that, even though he probably did screw up somewhere, he knows that you can't blame one person like she's trying to. He knows that people make mistakes and he's not going to let you beat him up over it.

I feel this song is about inner strength and realization. I believe, he is talking about a relationship that is starting to go sour. Yet, in the process, she is trying to make him suffer more than she is. But, he knows what she is doing and it doesn't affect him. She tries to bring him down to her lever, but his inner strength knows what is happening. So, he lets her do these things in knowing that he is more of a man than she will ever know.
