To the sound of a heartbeat pounding away
To the rhythm of the awful rusted machines
We toss and turn but don't sleep
Each breath we take makes us thieves
Like causes without rebels
Just talk but promise nothing else
We crawl on our knees for you
Under a sky no longer blue
We sweat all day long for you
But we sow seeds to see us through
The sometimes dreams just don't come true
We wait to reap what we are due
To the rhythm of a time bomb ticking away
And the blare of the sirens combing the streets
Chased down like dogs we run from
Your grasp until the sun comes up [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/r/rise_against/re_education_through_labor.html ]
We crawl on our knees for you
Under a sky no longer blue
We sweat all day long for you
But we sow seeds to see us through
The sometimes dreams just don't come true
Look now at what they've done to you
White needles buried in the red
The engine roars and then it gives
But never dies
'Cuz we don't live
We just survive
On the scraps that you throw away
I won't crawl on my knees for you
I won't believe the lies that hide the truth
I won't sweat one more drop for you
'Cuz we are the rust upon your gears
We are the insects in your ears
We crawl
We crawl
We crawl... all over you
We sow the seeds to see us through
Our days are precious and so few
We all reap what we are due
A judge's sky no longer blue
We bring the dawn all over new
We crawl
We crawl
We crawl... all over you
I believe this song is a reference to the chinese prison system (which is also called re-education through labour), which has been criticized for detaining those opposed to the government. This reference also shows the key meaning behind the line "white needles buried in the red" as well. In some instances what goes on is little short of brainwashing. Basically it's about fighting back against authority, the prosecution of free thought, and not buying into the lies that they want to force you to believe. Good song. :)

Whoever did the lyrics can haz fail. It's cause dreams don't come true, not the.. Wtf? Anywhich way, it's a great song.
What is being expressed in this song is going to keep growing. It's that feeling right now just under the surface of all that is happening in america, and it is going to boil over. The storming of our bastille may be near.
Can't we correct it anymore? That's seriously going to bug me now. It's obviously "'cause dreams just dont come true" nothing else makes sense for the line it's after.
This is my personal favorite song from rise against though. Who doesnt like a song about revolting against opressive powers?
I think it's a great song, but grace note f'd my lyrics up again.
"'cause sometimes dreams just don't come true-"
not "the sometimes dreams just don't come true-"
do you know how many times i've screwed up that line because of you, grace note? Lots.
I believe in the chorus it's "but sometimes dreams just don't come true" and it might be "and the blare of the sirens cover the streets". I'm not sure, but in any case this is an awesome song. Not the best on the album imo, but an awesome song.
This song is about a group of people who have been controlled and pushed around for too long and they finally realize this and start to fight back against their "master". This song rocks!! :d
