Primitive Radio Gods – Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand lyrics
(I been downhearted baby
I been down- I been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met

I been downhearted baby
I been down- I been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met)

Jan lays down and wrestles in her sleep
Moonlight spills on comic books
And superstars in magazines
An old friend calls and tells us where to meet
Her plane takes off from Baltimore
And touches down on Bourbon Street

We sit outside and argue all night long
About a god we've never seen
But never fails to side with me
Sunday comes and all the papers say
Ma Teresa's joined the mob
And happy with her full time job

Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do

(I been downhearted baby
I been down- I been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met

I been downhearted baby
I been down- I been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met)

Am I alive or thoughts that drift away?
Does summer come for everyone?
Can humans do as prophets say?
And if I die before I learn to speak
Can money pay for all the days I lived awake
But half asleep?

Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do

A life is time, they teach us growing up
The seconds ticking killed us all
A million years before the fall
You ride the waves and don't ask where they go
You swim like lions through the crest
And bathe yourself on zebra flesh

Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do
Do do do do doo do

I've been downhearted baby,
I've been downhearted baby,
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met

(I've been downhearted baby
I've been down- been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met.)

This song changed my life, standing in my garage alone, raining outside, wife off somewhere doing something that was old and mundane, I thought '' fuck this'' is not life this is just death while awake. So I got divorced and had adventure's, met new people and did new things, it was nice to be in my 20's again when life was all shiny and new.to me this song means wake up don't be hypnotized " can money pay for all the days I lived awake while half asleep" I hope all of you have long and happy lives.

Meaning for me personally: it can take years of your life (meanwhile taking years off your life) to let go of the traditions and beliefs of those that went before you. Once that is let go you are so free, mentally free, that you do all the crazy things you yourself believe in like getting on a plane fly to new orleans and sitting outside talking all night long about crazy meaningless crap. . That once made you downhearted.

I too like that '90s song "standing outside a broken phone booth with money in my hand" by Primitive Radio Gods. I just looked at lyrics, but even title is making a statement on older manners of communication i.e. the relic of a phone booth, along with the futility of having money but no one to share it with, perhaps even amassing a fortune and then just dying not knowing where your money will go. Also being successful, and as most of us lonely, even with our fair weather party acquaintances, having no one to really talk to with any real depth. And if you find someone you can go deeper with, almost always turns out in an argument, as lyric says. The song makes statement also of the fake magazine smiles Hollywood La La land plastic make believe as all glamour, when most of it is hard long work, and usually quite boring. What I find particularly interesting is The Spiritual views, I mean even the ironic name of the band, and though can't see God in our flesh, the writer is quite aware of His Presence, and that just from mere belief that God is for him. This is true in a way, that God's thoughts are only good for us, as Scripture says, but God isn't The One choosing sides, He is for Himself (see in Joshua 5:13, 14) asks are you on our side or theirs? The answer is simply - no, I AM The Captain of The Heavenly Armies. Most Theologians refer to this as a Christophany, an appearance of Christ before Carnate.
