Wake up on your own
And look around you cuz you're not alone
Release your high hopes and they'll survive
Cuz this is the future and you are alive

Dive in and swim away
From your loneliness and miserable days

And when you wake up on your own
Look around you cuz you're not alone
Let your hopes go and they'll survive
Cuz this is the future and you are alive
?Youre headed home
(?Youre headed home)

Adam Young (Owl City) is a Christian.
This is what his lyrics are talking about:

We wake up and feel like we are alone
but we aren't. We have God by us all the time.
If you let go of your hopes, you will find all of your dreams come true in God.
In the future (when you die), you will have eternal life in heaven.

When you believe in God and believe that Jesus died for our sins, Jesus washes our sins and miserable days away. We are reborn with Jesus and rise again. You have to dive in and take the plunge, leaving your miserable days behind you. God takes them away from you.

When you accept God, you're headed home to heaven when you die. This is where we truly belong.

If you want to get to heaven: Let me ask you this, have you ever lied or stolen? Your answer is probably yes. God's standard is that none of break any of his 10 commandments. By breaking one, we have broken all of them. None of us can live up to his standard of perfection. Because of this, we are all doomed for hell. Every single person, even me. But God wants a relationship with us. He wants us to know him and be in heaven with him. So God sent his son Jesus to die for our sins. Jesus bore all of our sins onto his body and died, washing us clean. By accepting Jesus, we are accepting that God offered us a gift of salvation, a way out of hell and into heaven. By accepting this gift, we are entering a relationship with God. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." God wants a relationship with you. He wants to answer all your prayers and meet you in heaven, in paradise. If you want your future in be without misery and without pain, accept Jesus as your lord and savior. He has rescued us all.

Well... I think he's talking about leaving all your 'loneliness and miserable days' behind and going 'home' to where everyone that loves and cares about you are. It's kind of sad but this is one of my favorite songs.

The song is about the moment you pass on from this life onto the next. It's a journey you must take on your own but then you "wake up" to find you're not alone. A hopeful reminder that we do have a future. Absolutely beautiful song. Probably one of my favorites.

To me, this song is like a reminder that everything is going to be okay. It's saying look around, you feel alone but you're not. It's saying that you have to let go of your high hopes or you'll never be happy because you'll never be able to achieve them, but if you let them go something good will come of it. It's saying leave behind your "loneliness and miserable days". And most importantly, it's saying wake up, stop living in the past, this is the future, and you are alive.
