Offspring – Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? lyrics

There's a moment in time
And it's stuck in my mind
Way back, when we were just kids

Cause your eyes told the tale
Of an act of betrayal
I knew that somebody did

Oh, waves of time
Seem to wash away
The scenes of our crimes
But for you this never ends

Can you stay strong?
Can you go on?
Kristy are you doing okay?
A rose that won't bloom
Winter's kept you
Don't waste your whole life trying
To get back what was taken away

Though the marks on your dress
Had been neatly repressed
I knew that something was wrong
And I should have spoke out
And I'm so sorry now
I didn't know
Cause we were so young

Oh, clouds of time
Seem to rain on
Innocence left behind
And it never goes away

If you just listen to the song casually, it almost sounds like a breakup song. But if you listen carefully "I should have spoke out" "I didn't know cause we were young" He's saying he should have seen that something was really wrong there but he didn't because he had no life experience. She's definately being abused, whether by parents, a guy, or someone else. The line "don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away" definately hints at rape. Nothing's really "taken away" with other abuse. It says "a moment in time" which shows that this is something that happened once. This song is about a girl he knew who got raped and he wishes he would have done something about it back then. Whether or not "Kristy" is someone he really knew, or this is just an example, it's a lesson to all of us.

This song is definatly about a girl who was getting molested. Nobody wants to realize it, but this happens to a lot of young girls. I bet that in a high school of like 400 kids, at least 10 of them are getting or have gotten molested at one time. I mean, it is a sad song, and if you know of anyone who is hurting like this, then tell someone. It just shows how much you care for them if you can step up and help them out. If you don't, trust me, they will grow up to have sum problems. I'm 14, and because of what happend to me when I was younger, I cry a lot. I have someone now who would do anything to protect me, and for that I'm grateful. I don't want this to ever happen to anyone. . And yes, I looove this song. Everytime I listen to it makes me cry, and my bf once sang it to me, but replaced kristy with my name. Hez such a sweetie!

My name is Kristy, I lived this song out in my teen years and would have reveled in the thought that someone cared enough to want to know how I was doing. I suffered in silence with the few of my friends who knew. I never blamed them for not speaking out, because I didn't either. That was over 20 years ago and yes I was strong, I did move on, and yes I am "DOING OK!!!"

I actually agree with lalainesapphire. It makes sense. And yes, she was probably abused and I don't doubt she cuts. I actually kinda felt sad when I heard it.
I love how they portray the girl in the video! She is kind of an emo kid, but she's not screamingly obvious. And she does talk to people and isn't feeling sorry for herself. She's just. Really screwed up inside. I think its perfect. Just like Dexter's hair! The dreads and spikes are gone!

I think this song is about what all of you guys said shes depressed sad she was probably abused and neglected and she tries to hide it from her friends.
Cause your eyes told the tale Of an act of betrayal I knew that somebody did Innocence left behind And it never goes away
or even she was abused that person is gone and she has painful emotional and physical scars.
