Now this could be the last of all the rides we take
So hold on tight and don't look back
We don't care about the message or the rules they make
I'll find you when the sun goes black

And you only live forever in the lights you make
When we were young we used to say
That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break
Now we are the kids from yesterday

All the cameras watch the accidents and stars you hate
They only care if you can bleed
Does the television make you feel the pills you ate?
Or every person that you need to be

Cause you only live forever in the lights you make
When we were young we used to say
That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break
Now we are the kids from yesterday

Today, today
We are the kids from yesterday
Today, today

Here we are and we won't stop breathing
Yell it out 'til your heart stops beating

We are the kids from yesterday
Today

Cause you only live forever in the lights you make
When we were young we used to say
That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break
Now we are the kids from yesterday
We are the kids from yesterday
We are the kids from yesterday
We are the kids from yesterday
Today, today

The guys are trying to say that they've grown up through the 10 going on 11 years they've been a band. Gee being a father of a beautiful baby girl and frankie being 'super dad'. They've gone from hometown bars to madison square garden.

The song refers to life... Saying that the friends you had when you were a kid will eventually be gone and new friends will replace them. As a person we learn to grow through heartaches and loves, and that over time things change..

I think this song is about growing and getting a stronger person. It's about getting older and wiser and learning to love yourself and stop trying to be somebody else to make everyone else happy.

    Or something like that! :]

    My interpretacion of the song:
two friends are growing apart because of not being allowed to talk, but secretly they can see each other & their friendship will "live forever in the lights you make" and now they can "be the kids from yesterday" or the best friends they used to be.

"you only live forever in the lights you make"
you only "live on" if you've made a point across to the world. Once you're dead and everyone who knows you are dead, then no one will know who you were. Unless, you make a point and somehow the world remembers you years after you've died
"when we were young we used to say"
when they were young, obviously that means when they were young. "that you only hear the music when your heart begins to break"
the first time you truely understand the depth of music and feel like someone understands you out there, that's when you've had heart broken. "now we are the kids from yesterday"
now they are older and they are just of the past.
