Katie, don't cry, I know
You're trying your hardest
And the hardest part is letting go
Of the nights we shared
Ocala is calling and you know it's haunting
But compared to your eyes, nothing shines quite as bright
And when we look to the sky, it's not mine, but I want it

So, let's not pretend like you're alone tonight
(I know he's there and)
You're probably hanging out and making eyes
(While across the room he stares)
I bet he gets the nerve to walk the floor
And ask my girl to dance, she'll say yes

Because these words were never easier for me to say
Or her to second guess
But I guess
That I can live without you but
Without you I'll be miserable at best

You're all that I hoped I'd find
In every single way
And everything I would give
Is everything you couldn't take
Cause nothing feels like home, you're a thousand miles away
And the hardest part of living
Is just taking breaths to stay

Cause I know I'm good for something
I just haven't found it yet
But I need it

So, let's not pretend like you're alone tonight
(I know he's there and)
You're probably hanging out and making eyes
(While across the room he stares)
I bet he gets the nerve to walk the floor
And ask my girl to dance, she'll say yes

Because these words were never easier for me to say
Or her to second guess
But I guess
That I can live without you but
Without you I'll be miserable at best

Ladada ladada ladadaoh ohhh

And this will be the first time in a week
That I'll talk to you
And I can't speak
It's been three whole days since I've had sleep
Cause I dream of his lips on your cheek
And I got the point that I should leave you alone
But we both know that I'm not that strong
And I miss the lips that made me fly

So, let's not pretend like you're alone tonight
(I know he's there and)
You're probably hanging out and making eyes
(While across the room he stares)
I bet he gets the nerve to walk the floor
And ask my girl to dance, she'll say yes

Because these words were never easier for me to say
Or her to second guess
But I guess
That I can live without you but
Without you I'll be miserable
And I can live without you but
Without you I'll be miserable
And I can live without you but
Oh, without you I'll be miserable at best...

Well the lead singer (Derek) was going out with this girl names Katie. While he was away on tour Katie met this guy named Mike and she ended up cheating on Derek in every way possible...and then when he was coming home from a very stress full concert Derek knew all along that she was cheating on him and Katie finally fessed up to him about Mike. So Derek as in the song loved her so much he had to let her go so she could be happy. He knew he could live without her just would be miserable...but it was for the best of Katie

So there's a little story as to how i discovered this song.
Last spring i finally admitted my feelings to this girl that i had liked for months. She told me she liked me too but that "it was complicated" and that she didn't want a relationship. So even though i rode my bike to her house everyday for months and we even held hands and kissed, she never fully wanted to be mine. Later i found out it was because she also had feelings for my friend who i had already asked her if she had feelings for, which she denied. She sent me a text that june saying that he asked her out and she said yes. I lied even to myself that it was fine and that i still wanted to be friends.
A couple weeks later, i was riding my bike to her house like usual even though we were "just friends. " i was listening to her ipod that i had borrowed, when this song came on on shuffle. I had to stop because i was tearing up. I realised i did still like her, but i was trying to "pretend she was alone tonight" by being her "friend". All because "he had the nerve to ask my girl to dance, and she said yes. "
I've been scared of being involved in a relationship ever since.

this song is basically trying to say,

the dude has to break up with his girlfriend because he thinks she likes someone else. he really doesnt want to have to do this, but he loves her enough to let her go. she is really upset and devastated, and it is kind of like a "im sorry i hurt you" song

I would just like to add that Jason left the band. Sadly :l
Also I don't know if it was his wife or girlfriend, I've heard different.
